Dragon eggs went for a high price in the market place, especially among beastclans. So, naturally, the first thing Gordon of the centuars wanted to do when he found a single earth egg out in the middle of nowhere was to sell it. He definitely hadn’t expected it to hatch on the way there, though. She was so tiny, and her rounded chocolates eyes held nothing but innocence in them. Gordon didn’t mean to fall in love with them so quickly. ‘I’ll wait till she’s older’, he thought to himself. ‘Then maybe I can get a price on her.’ But he never did. He kept the hatchling in his home for days, which turned into weeks, then months, and then years. And by then, the idea of giving her away had completely left his mind.

He called her Athena, after the great goddess that people several generations before him had once worshipped. She always had her head buried in a book, or was listening to her “father’s” stories by the fireplace.

While Gordon and Athena were inseparable, the rest of the herd didn’t think as highly of her. There was only so much time before they were either abandoned, or Athena would be taken and sold (or killed) by force. So they fled. It was a long and tiring journey, but they had managed to make it into the Tangled Wood. Miraculously, the first dragons they met there were part of a clan that welcomed both dragons and beastclans. The Everonyx Clan. They were invited to join, and, having nowhere else to go, they accepted.

The two are now a welcome sight to all, with Athena’s words of wisdom and Gordon’s stories as a young foul drawing in beastclans and dragons alike.
