Tangled in shadows since birth, her skin molded into the darkness around her, sucking in the bleak blackness of the atmosphere into her scales, until she herself was a shadow, menacing as the night sky, even more so because her eyes never twinkled with starlight, they were just two orbs of darkness that reflected the horrors of the world with intensity. Every other dragon in her clan feared her, shamed her until her once bright eyes became a dim gray of icy intent. Ridiculed, slandered, reduced to an abomination by their words... branded with a name that rang of murder, Raven. The Icewarden's territory was always covered in stark white, a place where she stood out like a sore thumb in, but the ice taught her lessons: to not trust, to keep her heart guarded with icicles sharp as her claws. No longer able to take their sharp inhales and whispers about her, she left, eager to find a place that would accept her midnight colored frame. But even within the land of shadows, she was still unwelcome, lost and afraid of what was around her, but she kept the memory of their discrimination in her mind, and it was her anger that fueled her spirit. Her eyes took on a gleam of darkness, of ruthlessness that sapped the life out of everything just as ice did. The dragon who only longed for a place to belong to decided that she no longer needed a family, no, her shadow was enough company. Raven traveled through lands, leaving behind a trail of blood and rumors of a silent killer that knew every secret in the land. She sold information to the highest bidder, and closed her eyes and ears to the carnage of bodies and accompanying songs of desperate screaming. She donned on an invisibility cloak, and became a mystical figure of darkness. Depraved souls called her name in the shadows, and if the price was right, she answered. But then again, being invisible doesn't mean being invincible. Her old clan which had shunned her had caught word of her actions, and decided that she brought shame to their family. To cleanse their hands of her soiled ones, they set out on a mission to destroy her. A flock of them, warriors all trained and powerful, they followed her like dogs, and just like that, Raven was once again at their mercy. They beat and clawed their way through the scales of her skin, leaving her half dead and desperate in the midst of The Tangled Wood. Blood dripping from every inch of her, cloak ripped to shreds, icy eyes melting with defeat... she was about to give up and close her eyes for good. "I didn't peg you to be a quitter," says a voice from the shadows. Raven looks up with much hardship reflected in her light blue eyes, and comes face to face with two orbs of a deep and menacing purple. The voice chuckles lightly, "Come with me love," it says and a Skydancer dressed in fine linen and wearing the same dark colors as her comes out from the tangle of sharp branches. It was the last thing she saw before her consciousness drifted off. ---- When Raven awoke, the light of the moon greeted her with a melancholic smile, and another caring smile drifted into view as the Skydancer gently cooed at her. She got up and looked down to see herself covered in scars as wide and deep as rivers. Ashamed of herself, the dragon attempted to crouch away from the other's sight, but the Skydancer merely chuckled in amusement before draping an item so familiar to Raven that she immediately felt at ease. "They call me Tobio, and I lead this clan and welcome lost souls like you, shunned and abandoned by those who will never understand the beauty in you mystic scales," she says with a sigh as she pats Raven gently. "Stay with us?" A hand tipped with menacing and yet loving claws is extended towards her, and almost without hesitation, Raven takes it and for the first time, she smiles. -Lore by Soidisant |
