The story of the Astral Oceans clan begins with a young fae named Elena. Ages ago, Elena was in the service of the Arcanist when gateways into the Aether began appearing in Sornieth Her team was sent in to investigate, but the mists are twisting and deceptive, and they found leaving to be much harder than entering. They were quickly separated from each other, and Elena assumed herself to be the only survivor. Lost and alone for countless years, she ultimately absorbed some of the Aether's nature into herself, becoming a living magical conduit with a tenuous grasp of reality.

The Aether has tides like any ocean, and while Elena wandered, it retreated from Sornieth and drew close again. Another age, another gateway, another too-curious Fae. When Elena stumbled across Aster, lost and afraid like she once was, something of the dragon she once was reawakened. She offered to show Aster how to survive in the Aether, and he accepted. The two quickly realized that quite a few dragons had stumbled into the Aether one way or another, and soon they were a small group of lost souls, banded together for protection and looking to Elena for guidance.
