"You have to get there, Matsia. You don't have to tell them everything right away." Matsia couldn't look Nilii in the eye. "I know you can make the trip. You have to!" The fatigue she felt had gotten worse, and a fever had settled in her as well. She had to leave, even though Nilii couldn't follow. She wasn't so sure she would survive on the way there. Her friend reached over, holding out a softly pink rose and said: "This is for the strength and determination you've inspired in me. Now I want this to inspire you too." Nilii smiled. "I will make sure it never withers." Matsia accepted the rose and left, knowing this would be the last she saw of her best friend.
Matsia, like Caheran, made her own way to the lair of clan JinetJade, but in her case pleading for shelter. She had fled her lair for reasons now forgotten, got herself lost and gone from Shadow to Light. For such a young Shadow dragon, the brightness of Sunbeam Ruins can be overwhelming, and the neglected ruins of the Hewn City didn't give enough refuge. Though she had made a friend there whom she will never forget, and she keeps a rose with her as the memory of them. She continued over to Lightning, where there was actual shade to spare for her until she could get used to bright daylight. Frail from exhaustion and dehydration, she found herself at clan JinetJade's doorstep. Impatient to find her place in the world, Matsia had turned to crime and thievery. Her excuse was that it was in her blood as Shadowborn and daughter to a pirate to seek that path, even though she tried to hide from herself it was because of her past troubles. As an adult, she no longer remembered what scarred her so, but as time went on, she felt thievery was her one skill and decided to stay on that track. She realised there is no point in stealing from the very lair that saved her life, and run. She would be too easy of a target, and had no confidence there are any others out there who would let someone like her in. |

But in the eyes of those opposed,
It is the harbinger of the dead and dying.
The ruins echo her thoughts,
They are broken and crumbling, but might have lived with care,
But vines creep upon the corpses of dead hopes, giving ideas of their own.
To be where clouds protect from the violent sun,
To be where one lives under a great guide,
To flee all that meant light.
She found her path dusty and welcoming,
Beckoning to the temptation,
Alight with brilliant spark.
But before she could run to the arms of the spires,
A single dragon with pity and love,
Marked the occasion with a rose.
They say the storm does not heal,
But how can that be so when it shelters with crowns of droplets,
Saying the simple message of "You are home."
