Picketwire was a woman of logic, of science. The world moved in accordance to physical laws and not by spirits or religion. And she wanted to know more about the world, she burned with a curiosity that lead her to a life of study. Her primary interest was in history, in the bricks and bones of past civilizations.

She rose in academia, earning praise for her work in the field of archeology. But as she worked, she would come across clans that tried to run her off from their ancestral ruins. She was warned that if she did not treat her finds with proper respect, she would suffer.

Years passed and she never once experience any ill effects - until she came to a tomb in the Greatwyrm's Breach. Her guides said the place buzzed with magic from sacred caves and cultish activity, but she ignored them. She felt nothing. She had no reason to fear, brushing it aside as superstition.

When she opened the tomb, her breath was knocked out of her body. Everything became cold and dark. An emptiness spread through her chest - and she would never be the same again. The curses she had laughed at had finally caught up to her.
