Living in the market was a bit difficult. I was watching gems and treasure being exchanged for dragons at intense speeds, every dragon taken to be sent off to a deity, or even taken into a home. I knew my fate of being exalted would come eventually. I was quite tired, sitting there all day, watching others being taken to their own fates. Each day, more and more treasure and gems being exchanged. I, honestly, would much prefer a home over being sent to work. I understand that it's a high honor to be chosen to serve a deity themselves, but... I'd prefer to be much more loved than that. Days and days went by. More and more exchanges. I was starting to think that no one would ever pick me up. That's when my special day came.

I was still there after a couple days, getting tired of not being taken. Yearning to just leave this place. A silver spiral came into the markets, browsing her options of dragons for a minute or two. Usually people don't browse when they want to send you off. Usually when people browse, that means they want to rescue someone from being sent off by someone else. I wasn't getting my hopes up at all. It was normal. She dropped some gems into the seller's claws, and she began walking towards... me. Why me? There are so many other pretty dragons here... and my colors aren't even all that great. She probably planned to send me off anyway. She led me to her lair, where I saw a bunch of smiling faces. These weren't your average "hello" smiles. They were "welcome home" smiles. I knew right then and there that all these others were my lairmates.

The spiral led me to a warm spot with fluffy bedding. Most likely from some sort of coliseum enemy.

"Welcome to our lair. What's your name?"

I realized. I didn't have a name.

"I- er... I don't have a name. Maybe you can name me. You saved me, after all."

The spiral thought for a moment and her eyes lit up. "Do you like the name Merlin?"

Merlin, I thought. I liked the ring to it. It sounded suiting.

"Yes. I love it, in fact!"

"Well, that's great then! Wait here and I'll find you a familiar."

The familiars! Of course! Every dragon in this lair had some sort of animal companion with them. I was filled with excitement. The possibilities for my familiar were practically endless! The spiral came back, carrying a blue caiman who had orange eyes and yellow accents. I loved him immediately. He was such a friendly and energetic little bundle of joy, and still is! I know that some people don't name their familiars, but it just felt right for me to name this little guy. His name is Muffin and he's the most adorable little chomp. I realized the spiral was holding something else. I couldn't believe it. Apparel. My very own apparel. She helped me put it on the right way. The lanterns floated above the ground, blue flames curling around them softly. The silky cover went over my head. It felt very comfortable. I could see out of it, although it DID cover my eyes, making it significantly harder to see. (tbc)
