Beasts

Also known as fae folk or pixies, fairies are small creatures often found along ley lines that cross woodland territory. Ley lines represent specific areas where magic surges, and the skilled creatures use it's boost to craft delicate webbing out of precious metals, creating elaborate designs and structures akin to nests and spiderwebs.

Greatly sought after by dragonkind, such work is used by the faeries to attract insects and other small creatures, lured in by the glint of metal and then trapped in a mesh made of too sturdy a material to break free. Once a living creature is trapped, the swarm of fae will quickly consume it, not being particularly picky about what it is.
Older dragons are wary of crossing fae-infested woods, and often caution the young hatchlings against venturing alone, and against ever going alone into such places. While harder to trap, a small hatchling caught in their web is just as nourishing as any other morsel.

Tamers

Known as Fae Whisperers, there are bold dragons that make a trade out of tapping into the fae's skills to create Sylvan jewelry - highly sought after and very valuable works of art, only possible to achieve with diminutive artisans and their particular brand of magic.

However, the crafting of such items isn't without a cost. While the different approaches to procuring a nest of fae might vary - contracts, trapping with silver, breeding them oneself - one must carry it at all times, usually in the form of a parasitic fungi attached to one's body. While the mushrooms themselves are fairly benign, the fae magic contained within slowly affect the host's body, leading to unfortunate side effects, such as the presence of wooden-like horns that marks a Fae Whisperer - as well as the cloud of pixies constantly swarming around them.

With time, the magic in the fungi may lead the dragon to become little more than a vessel for the fae nest, the tamer becoming the tamed beast. Those that fall victim to the thrall of the fae folk are often seen returning to the woods where the nest originated, spending their days ambling aimlessly through the woods with vacant eyes and no spark of their former self. Eventually, the host dragon will succumb, too weak anymore. When that happens, the fae that inhabit the nest will quickly consume it along with the body attached to it, choosing instead to build a new nest in a new, untainted location.

Merlot

Born to a traveling caravan of skydancers, Merlot was gifted form birth with the Wind eyes of their host at the time and an uncanny ability to communicate with fae.
With a little help from the local shamans and beast tamers the skydancer quickly learned to harness the skills of the little creatures into jewelry making.

Carrying the nest of pixies with him wherever he goes, Merlot's skills are sought after by many clans as he crafts exquisite and delicate jewels with translucent webbing, known commonly as Sylvan jewelry by the most savvy merchants.
However, the young male is well aware of the dangers to his chosen trade, and is wary of the creatures that do his bidding - and exasperated at his apprentice's insistence that the fae attached to her are, in any way, her friends.

Hired by the queen to work with the clan's artisans and metal smiths after the previous Fae tamers, Morgan and Aelfric, succumbed to the spell of their charges, the male's only demand was that he be allowed to bring along his apprentice - a request fulfilled enthusiastically by a ruler keen on having two skilled jewelers for the price of one.
