Biography
| _______ |
Some say you can only see the strange Coatl during the full moon. Others say you can only see him during the witching hour. Still others say you can only see him if you perform a strange and arcane ritual. O, if they knew how wrong they were. Those who do not see him cannot, or will not, see him. The phases of the moon, the distance between two celestial bodies, even mystical rituals: none will grant a mind open to the wonders of the world. And isn’t that what they really wanted? Some say he is a powerful sorcerer who walks the dreamtime by night and the mortal world by day. Others say he is a ghost, the spirit of someone who had unfinished business and never left. Still others say he is a reaper, and if he takes your soul you will be condemned to eternal damnation. He is no reaper. He merely helps the souls of those who have crossed over to find peace. A guide, of sorts. He knows who he is. He is Zen. And death waits for no one. - by Ladylilitu | ___ |

He is ten years old when he meets them, and he remembers thinking that he wouldn’t mind kissing them.
He is fourteen years old when his thought becomes reality, fevered touches and rough kisses that leave his feathers broken. He is sixteen years old when the cobra bites him, and as he drifts into unconsciousness he remembers thinking it’s okay, it’s okay, it’ll be okay as long as he has them by his side. The opal bursts in painful veins along every inch of his body, the purple-blue color of forget-me-nots, and Zen struggles not to cry every time he moves. Their tender caresses soothe the worst of the pain, but it’s still bad. And they know. His doctors tell him he has a year to live, and though he painstakingly plans out his daily activities, it’s one thing to plan. It’s another thing to do it. Gradually, gradually, Zen is reduced to a shadow in a hospital bed. They bring him bouquets of forget-me-nots on the daily, profusions of periwinkle blossoms that overflow his room, fall on his cot, scent pervading the air, but even the effort it takes to ask Why these? Why forget-me-nots? is too much. So he drowns in their perfume. The flowers are effusive declarations of their love, and Zen knows he should feel glad but desolation nestles in his bones and all he can do is stare at his hands covered in the hated color and weep. “Come on, we’re losing him! Do something!” “I don’t want us to be a tragedy. I want to fly and rise and grow old with you,” his claws tremble and fall because it will never happen. “We are not a tragedy. We are love.” He fades. He understands, now, why they brought him forget-me-nots. His last minutes are spent pleading. "Forget-me-not, my darling.” But they do, and Zen mourns. They were a tragedy, in the end. - by Ladylilitu |
