The oldest dragon on Home's faculty board and the head accountant and financial overseer. Gatsby is a somewhat grumpy and eccentric former explorer and treasure-hunter who has finally decided to settle down and lead a bit of a quieter life - although those closest to him question how quiet his life will ever be.
- Biography
Gatsby was born into poverty under the birth name Eugene - a name that he changed as soon as he left his birth Clan to seek his fortune. He was a treasure-hunter in his youth and travelled all over Sornieth. Some of Home's residents estimate he must have been born centuries ago; others estimate he couldn't be much older than their grandfathers. Gatsby himself tends to agree with whoever he's less miffed with that day.
- Life at Home
As Home's chief accountant, Gatsby is responsible for all monetary matters. He sets the budget down to a penny and ensures all expenses are taken care of and accounted for. A dragon with excellent money sense, he accumulated no small share of wealth during his adventuring days, but his shrewd and resourceful personality means Home's younger hatchlings often see him as stingy. Although he says he's retired, Gatsby will probably never be able to stay out of trouble, and he's still a magnet for adventures and trouble. He's more than happy to yet capable dragons tag along, though, and he says that most everyone is good at getting into trouble, he just needs to teach them how to get into trouble properly. He occasionally teaches anthropology and archaeology electives for advanced students.
- Relationships
Gatsby quickly endeared himself to the other dragons on the faculty board, and is particularly close with the others on Home's main faculty board housed in Ásgarðr Hall. The children of his colleagues affectionately refer to him as "Uncle Gatsby." He is closest with Baruch and Roscoe's sons Maxwell, and Arthur, Renly and Nelson's son Rhys, and their best friend Addy. He loves spending time taking Home's capable residents on adventures, saying that they help keep him young. Most of Home's residents will never have him as a professor, but he is still a prominent figure around Home and everyone knows him. He just prefers spending time with the dragons he knows best. He likes to pretend he can't tell Home's residents apart, though this charade always drops when he's worried or upset. He also likes to pretend he's actually as stingy as the hatchlings think he is, but every one of Home's residents can expect a gift from him on their hatchdays.
- Personality
Often acting like the stereotypical grumbling old dragon, Gatsby can be a difficult dragon to warm up to. He's tough as nails, often regaling residents with stories (that no-one can disprove) about how he's accomplished feats such as climbing the tallest mountains in Sornieth with four broken legs. He's also clever and sharp as a tack, and very little gets past him. He tends to be impatient, irritable, and a touch self-important. Despite his cold and aloof exterior, however, he has a protective streak a mile wide, and will put his own safety on the line to keep any one of Home's residents safe without a second thought. This is a good quality, because despite being one of the cleverest dragons around, he's also a bit too reckless and loves nothing more than a challenge (he's the worst on family game night). Gatsby is easily bored and often must find ways to keep himself entertained, known for a love of wordplay and a dry sense of humour that will go over your head if you're not paying attention. He tends to hurt feelings without meaning to, although he does always try his best to put things right. He tries hard to teach Home's hatchlings to be self-reliant and resourceful, and although he's not always the best at it, the dragons at Home know he always means well.

Exalting Gatsby to the service of the Lightweaver will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
