The Fire-born assistant Head of Álfheimr Hall, Adalai was one of the few Fire dragons encouraged from a young age to continue magical study. Fire magic is notoriously difficult, unpredictable, and dangerous, and most Fire magicians are taught only to control their magic before their power outstrips their skill. Gifted Fire magicians are rare, and it is for this reason that Adalai has always taken his magical skill very seriously. He was lucky to grow up in a Fire-Flight orphanage that could afford his magical training, and because he knows he is an exception to the rule he does not take his status as a Fire master for granted. Because of their rarity, most Fire masters are recruited for the Fire Flight's guard, a position the naturally meek and kind-hearted Adalai would not accept, leading him to leave his birth Flight. Despite his extreme magical skill, Adalai's true passions are more artistic. He is a very skilled tailor and fashion designer, and aside from his duties as Head of Hall, he also works hard to make clothes for Home's residents and faculty, firm in his belief that quality hand-made clothing is well worth the investment and time, and manages a fleet of apprentice tailors (consisting of a few aspiring tailors or designers but mostly of students from other Halls fulfilling volunteer requirements before their graduation).

Contemplative, kind-hearted, and soft-spoken, Adalai is always polite and rarely shows negative emotion or raises his voice. He is a very warm dragon, generous with praise and with his time, his door always open to struggling Álfheimr students. He accepts every young Fire magician at Home who wants to learn into his elemental magic classes. While many schools of Fire magic philosophy contend that Fire magic is most powerful performed with an aggressive style, Adalai argues that a calmer style fueled by inner balance produces a much more stable form of Fire magic. Because Fire magic is so dangerous, Adalai is a much stricter teacher of elemental magic than his easygoing personality would suggest. In the arts classes he teaches, however, he has a much more relaxed teaching style that makes him an extremely popular professor. A very calm and controlled sort of dragon, he can get on the nerves of some more high-strung dragons when it seems he's not taking things seriously enough. He also has an easy-going and spiritual nature that means other dragons sometimes underestimate his abilities and are surprised when they see just how powerful a Fire master he is. Adalai has a tendency to make jokes to diffuse tense situations, and he always keeps tins of candies in his desk for when students come to him upset about their problems. He can easily appear somewhat hedonistic to those who don't know him well, often content to sew quietly in his room and make and drink tea in copious quantities. This stems from his main philosophy in life, which is that every day should be lived to the fullest and it is therefore best to spend time doing things you enjoy. Well-loved around Home, Adalai is known for two things: giving excellent life advice and making the best tea this side of the Sea of a Thousand Currents.
