Rot Jungle
Cemetery Caretaker
(Grave Digger)

A caretaker of the clan's forest graveyard

Such a young death, a light snuffed out before it's time. Rot's death took the township by surprise, considering the unusual circumstances around their death. They were found in a crumpled pile in a back room of their house, which smelt of burnt hair and the sickly scent of rotten flesh. Beside the fallen dragon, lay three softly pulsating orbs.

As it turns out, moments before Rot had actually been working on these orbs. They were trying out their first real spell, a simple one to make floating glowing light orbs. The spell called for immense concentration on one glass orb at a time, bringing the surrounding candlelight through the dragon's body and into the orb. Their first few tries resulted in shattered glass and a lot of frustration on Rot's part. Rot's last-ditch effort was their downfall, they gathered up all the effort they could muster, but their attention was split between the three last orbs.

They put all their heart and soul into this one last spell. Literally. The spell went wrong and took the life from Rot's body. One orb took their breath, the next their heartbeat, and the last their soul.

Rot's body once found was the first buried in the township's new and very small graveyard. It had been planned to be just a plain cemetery but the town decided to plant a small sapling over Rot's grave out of pure sorrow. The three glowing orbs were buried with Rot as well.

As Rot's body decomposed and their bones were slowly exposed by the roots of the tree. The orbs met with the exposed bone in a collision that spurred the orbs to activate, bringing life to the dead. By that time the roots had built a tomb around Rot's body so they struggled for a long while before clawing their way to the surface.

When they reached the surface, it was the middle of the night, and with their deteriorated eyesight, it was near impossible to see. Luckily they were saved by Storm Midnight, the high priestess of the nearby cathedral, she took in the reborn dragon.

At first, Rot was like a newborn hatchling, unsure of the world and only being comforted by the glowing orbs that had attached themselves to their exposed ribs. Slowly they learned of the world and were introduced to the township once again, to everyone's utter happiness and surprise. Storm was their caregiver, clothing and feeding them.

Despite their past life, they shied away from most affection and even socializing in general, keeping to themselves and staying around the graveyard. Death and its bodily effects had taken their toll on Rot, changing them forever. But that wasn't exactly a bad thing, they loved solitude and the quiet oasis that the empty graveyard was giving them.

So Rot took up the mantle of the graveyard and all its maintenance, a stoic guardian of all those who would come to rest or mourn here.
