 Ataine was cursed with a gift of Sight. the lightweaver bestowed upon her the ability to see into the past and near future, something she would gladly give back if she could. her eyes were burned away shortly after hatching, replaced by beams of piercing light. dragons that look into the beams for too long report temporary blindness.

Her mother milagrosi initially wanted to cast her from the clan. it was the growled words of morion, the clan's lead trainer, that stopped it from happening. morion recognized another dragon touched by the lightweaver, and took ataine under her wing. unfortunately for ataine, morion's only concept of love was the tough kind, and she was of the mind that a gift like this shouldn't be wasted.

From a very young age, ataine has trained to be able to utilize and understand her magic. initially, any use of her power would cause her to blackout and collapse, but now she's able use them with less drastic consequences. she can look into the past much easier than the future-- unfortunately, unless she has context for an event she's viewing (because it's something she's witnessed or heard about) ataine has no real way of knowing when something happened. looking into the future is even stranger-- her visions never come in the right order or with any amount of useful context.
