Biography, part 1
The imperial dragon furrowed his eyebrows in concentration, flaring his crystalline wings open and closed to jolt the clotted bolt of energy within him back into circulation. He focused on the buzzing vibrations of electrons in his chest, mentally untangling the tied up circuits that formed his heart. His talons trembled on the metal floor of the watchtower with nervous energy, making dents in the ground as he grunted with effort.“Come on. Come on. Work,” Alkener urged, willing the circuits within him to flow again. “I must work. I have to. I- I don’t want to die now.” There was so much to do. He had so many experiments left to perform, the tangled bits of his projects scattered about on the floor. If he could make them work, surely he could make himself work, couldn’t he? He just had to survive until then, but what if he couldn’t? What if everything he was and everything he dreamed of being was... broken. Broken. Maybe the word just defined him. After all this, the flesh metal engine of his heart still failed. He tried everything to heal himself after the war, gathering information from every mechanic possible until he knew their craft better than them. But there was no cure for the damage his heart had sustained. Nothing worked. Now, it seemed as if it would be easier to give up. He was dead already. Click. Click. Click. There were claws tapping urgently at his window, refusing to let him pass away in peace. It was a dragon… a dragon sleek with teal and magenta scales. She had come back. "W-What?” he whispered, fearing he was hallucinating. “Help me! Please!” she shrieked, glancing fearfully behind her. Alkener hesitated for a brief moment before rushing over, throwing open the window against the howling wind. The dragon’s wings were broken and tattered, her blood splattering against Alkener’s chest. As if her life force had awakened his, the engine of Alkener’s heart snapped. Light pulsed through the circuits that connected his limbs, energy flowing through his veins once more. It was miraculous to be alive. It was miraculous indeed. However, what was more miraculous was his meeting with this dragon moments before his death. Her name was Aissa, and she had kept him alive. |
Biography, part 2
She had saved him again and again, sitting patiently by his side as he struggled for air, singing song after song of encouragement and hope. Her music had been everything he never though he could have, his heart surging and beating to its steady rhythm. She was always there for him when he needed her. Now, she was the one that needed saving this time, but he didn’t know what to do. All hope was to be lost as she let out her final breath, closing her bright eyes as her sweet smile faded away. There will be no one to sit by his side when he was in pain. There will be no one to sing to him songs. There will be no one to love him. “Please, Aissa. Don’t leave me. I need you. I-” Alkener looked away, choking back a sob. “I love you.” “Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not going to die,” Aissa chuckled, before hissing with pain. Aissa opened her mouth to say more before collapsing in a fit of coughs. Alkener felt his heart ache at every sound. There was no hope. He couldn’t save her. He was… No, there had to be hope. She had to live. Aissa was his own miracle. Miracles aren’t supposed to fade away. At least, not this one. The world could take away everything he had: his inventions, his dreams, or even his life, but not her. His life… That was it! Alkener bit the wires that connected his limbs, weaving them into her tattered wings. He tugged the circuits that contained his life force, pouring energy into her limbs. He willed the electrons within him to flow through her, humming with the buzz of electricity. No, that wasn’t enough. There had to be a miracle, and Alkener only knew one way to get one. The dragon tore apart his chest, gingerly laying the engine inside over her heart. It cracked, fusing together as one just before he collapsed. This time, he wasn’t giving away his life to the forces of darkness. This time, he was giving it away for love. Her name was Aissa, and he loved her so very much. Click. Click. Click. Silence… |
