Asteria’s family has been owning and guarding their own mine in the Shrieking Wilds for uncountable generations, taking the surname Goldvein to signify their heritage - and hard-fought ownership.

- Adolescent Biography

The Goldveins and their hired mercenaries fought off many a clan that attempted to stake their claims to the land, until one day it was all set ablaze in one last ditch effort to force the veilspun out.

Only Asteria would survive, trapped deep within the mine’s tunnels while her home was burned to ash above.

She would wait, consumed by rage and grief and driven half-mad by starvation, until the invaders finally made their way down into the mine.
Then, she burnt away the last of the support beams she’d been carefully whittling through. In a few short moments, the tunnel the rival clan had been investigating collapsed on top of them. The few that weren’t crushed on impact were left to starve amongst the veins of ore they so coveted.

Asteria would later swear an oath to The Behemoth that she would continue on, and in time, she hired new guards who were made to swear their loyalty as well; to both her and the Gladekeeper - for the gods didn’t take kindly to such oaths being broken.

That mine, encircled by burnt trees and bare ground, has remained under her ownership since. The mine reopened in part, and production continued - albeit much more slowly, as she was the only miner and jeweler left. The guards she employed would later become close as family, and she would eventually marry Gavor, the head of them all.

She carefully teaches each of their children the art of goldsmithing, making sure her family’s legacy is passed on.

They have no claims to the mine, however. She quietly awaits the arrival of a perfect heir - but until then, nobody else can touch it.
