"Selena"
Manifestation of the Moon
In ancient and heretical tomes, one can find references to other deities. They do not dispute the legitimacy of the Eleven (for that one would need a flesh and blood heretic), but argue that in the aftermath of Their return, many lesser deities were born. The amount of elemental energy throw into the world was immense, after all. All of that cataclysmic magic, riled up by war between flights and freshly cracked earth, the moving of such mighty bodies like those of the gods- that doesn't simply dissipate.

The theory goes that it coalesced, in ways which can be observed in very rare events of the modern era, into these lesser deities. It is all theory- it can't be proven, for one cannot come up with a 'true' definition of godhood. But whatever the theory or the heretical denominations that support them, Selena would view herself as one of these lesser deities. (Though she would not use the word 'lesser.')

When war tore through Sorienth, lost souls looked for other places to pledge themselves. As dragons were born, some found their purpose lacking. These gods that made them, that made them for war; they did not want war, they wanted to live. It was happenstance, or maybe divine grace, that some of these came across a young drake. This drake had been born out of penumbra and it's accompanying frost- a reflection of the moon above. Selena; that's what her followers named her, as they came to worship her gentle grace.

Her cult swelled, a group of pacifists, with only mild overtones of fanaticism to it. Adversity has a way of strengthening belief, and they had plenty of that. Selena was different to mortal dragons, but was not the towering, mighty presence of the Eleven. That made her a false idol to some, and even worse to others- a rival for their own chosen deities. And so, her cult had to do battle with others. Dragons born of stars, dragons born of mighty lakes, dragons born of festivities and love. A pantheon of little things which are easier to understand.

Pacifists are a persecuted class in times of war. It was no different for her followers. They loved her, but they could not defend her; she was locked away by powerful binding magic, only saved from permanent, agonising awareness at the last second by those who remained by her side. For a thousand years, Selena slept. The last family that protected her tomb continued on, building their town around her. However, bad luck had followed them. Their town was invaded, and in a last ditch attempt to save themselves, or their goddess, the last devout follower released her.

Selena breathed in, but her physical form was fading, seconds from the end, but a whisper of godhood left. She did not think. She simply possessed the closest living thing, mantling that last, devoted woman, and obliterating her soul in the process. The magical snap froze her town in an instant, and dazed, her feet took her away, leaving hollow shells in her wake.

To say she finds the current world confusing would be an understatement. Her eyes glow with moonlight. Her wings ripple like liquid galaxies, fraying into ink at the edge of delicate feathers. Shifting and unreadable runes dance around her pulse-points, her single horn glowing delicately. She has a kind, motherly attitude, though her voice, forever soft, has an eerie command to it.

Modern conduct is alien to her, and there is something off about her, unsettling. She has begun to train as a medic, but sometimes it seems like she views this as an interesting hobby- detached from the importance of life, and the weakness of flesh. Still, she has no reluctance to get her hands dirty, despite the worship she received all those years ago. Maybe she hasn't fully woken up yet- or maybe she's more mortal than she thinks.
