"Something's odd with these stars, and I'm going to figure out what." » pronounced loo-kor-rah » they/them » resident stargazer » believes they were formed from stardust » knows the night sky like the back of their hand » regularly Forgets that eating and sleeping are Things they Have to do » has a small study room that's fILLED with various scrolls » workaholic » Shadow, the Void Wyvern Lukorra » A sheet of parchment sits on a cluttered desk, unfurled, with the corners haphazardly held down by various glittery stones, and in a messy script that's just barely legible to an unfamiliar eye, the words written are: »» night one: there was quite the excitement in the sky tonight! I spotted three odd dots and followed after them as swiftly as I could. They were oddly shaped and colored stars! I retrieved them without issue and returned home — there's no signs of injury from impact, as well as no hints yet of what they could be or where they're from. »» night two: six more fell and were retrieved! this's quite exciting, and a refreshing break from staring at parchment for hours at a time — there's no signs of injury from impact, and after some studying I've concluded that there still aren't any hints yet of what they could be or where they're from »» night three: yet another six fell! just like the rest, they were safely retrieved, recorded, and examined — there's no signs of injury from impact, and, unfortunately, still no hints, yet, of what they could be or where they're from »» night four: six more! the first one was spotted by Shadow, as I was preoccupied with last night's finds, and retrieved — no signs of injury from impact, and, once again, no hints yet of what they could be or where they're from — this's getting ridiculously frustrating, as I have other obligations that're being severely neglected! »...I know I shouldn't since there's still so much to learn, but this one's my favorite of the bunch: » A messily sketched star sits just under the update, and even though it's done up in one color, the same glittery pink ink as the rest of the page, it somehow strongly resembles this one the best: »» night six: yet another six more have fallen, been retrieved, and examined — I'm exhausted! I've been at this for six straight days and nights and I'm just as knowledgeable about them as I was on the first night! It's insulting! »...how many more nights of this must I repeat until I discover a breakthrough? » An ink blot, the same color as the above script, with numerous frantic little foreign footsteps, haphazardly stains the parchment, and below that reads: »» night seven: I'm... not sure of what to make of this. I came in tonight, ready to tackle the stars once again and keep an eye out for more, only to find those infuriating stars cracked open like eggs, and almost three dozen creatures with horns, not of Sornieth, were scampering around the room like hatchlings and creating havoc amongst my invaluable scroll collection! » I refuse to admit how long it took, but I managed to catch and crate them all, with Shadow's help, of course, and have moved them to a different room until I can talk to Aranatha and Davnan. Hopefully we can figure out what to do with them soon, for living things aren't my forte. |
"I don't understand. The stars that fell — they're... warm, like there's something inside them, something that's alive."
"There's more! Excellent."
"Are these patterns clues to where they're from or what's inside?"
"Bah! I've studied and studied and studied these stars until they've imprinted on the back of my eyelids, and do you know what I've found? Nothing!"
"I've never been stumped before."
"What if I'm overthinking it all? What if they're just stars? What am I missing? ...Has this failure of mine convinced the Arcanist to lose His favor with me?"
"This's a joke, right? This has to be the most insulting prank I've ever been the target of! If I find out who did this..."
