❧ SLYFOOT Compassionate | Sincere | Impulsive | Protective Living his life as a quandary would bother Slyfoot more if he weren't used to it. Born to a now-lost Night Warrior mother, Slyfoot took more after his light-colored father than was generally considered acceptable for the dragons whose footprints lined the walls of the Hall of Echoes. Because of his dark wings - and because his grief-stricken grandmother demanded it - Slyfoot was nonetheless permitted to join the ranks of the Night Warriors. However, Slyfoot was all too aware that he'd gotten off on a technicality. What made his good fortune even harder to swallow was the fact that his brother, Bregedyr, was passed over for training in spite of his determination to prove himself a valued member of his family. There was an awful-but-understandable pragmatism to the selection process - the Suncircle Clan didn't need both brothers, and if one of them was to be trained, it would make sense to train the darker of the two. Even as Slyfoot feared for his brother's future, he also dreaded the day that Bregedyr would grow to resent him for his dark wings, because the day would surely come. When Slyfoot heard rumors of a plan to send Bregedyr to live with the dragons of Auroral Dissonance, he panicked. Their mother was dead, and their grandmother had done the best she could, but Bregedyr was his brother! They couldn't just send him away. Determined to stand up for his brother, Slyfoot left the nursery and flew to Pulchrior's tower, drawing an audience of his family members as he traveled. By the time they arrived at the tower, Slyfoot was determined to plead his brother's case, even if it meant casting his own status as a Night Warrior into question - what if they compared him with Bregedyr, side by side, and determined that he, too, were too pale in color to be counted among his lineage? But when he and his contingent of relatives burst into Pulchrior's tower, an unexpected sight awaited them. Bregedyr had gotten there first, and he'd worked out an arrangement with their patriarch that would allow him to start his own family tree, one that would provide a place for dragons like them, whose colors cast doubt on their status even though they had the same noble hearts. |
