Biography
RIFTSTALKER
Cavern Guard | Loyal | Tenacious | Paranoid | Aggressive
LORE
Stolen from his birth clan, Riftstalker has no memory of his parents and only remembers his Maren foster family, who raised him and trained him to fight. He perceived himself as being no different from his adopted family and culture. It was only when his school came into open conflict with the dragons of the Tidelord's domain that he learned the truth - that he had been raised and trained to defend the Maren from his own kind, dragons, whom his people hated and scorned.
While Riftstalker was shocked by this revelation, he still fought bitterly to protect his friends and family in the Maren school. During one particularly nasty fight, Riftstalker was wounded by an enemy dragon. Too weak to travel with the school, he was stranded in shallow water - alone and afraid for the first time in his life.
When Mariner happened upon his still form, floating limply in the waters off of Fishspine Reef, the Spiral was almost too far gone to be saved. But when he recovered, the clan was faced with an unexpected challenge. Riftstalker lashed out in panic at the dragons that surrounded him, desperate to escape, until Baikal managed to calm him down.
The hydropower plant proved to be the anchor that Riftstalker needed to shake him from his stupor. While he was still recovering from his injuries, Orion carried the young Spiral down to the Cavern and set him gently in the cold water at the lake's edge. For the only time in his memory, Riftstalker cried.
To this day, Orion and his parents, Pulchrior and Kidara, remain Riftstalker's most trusted allies. While he is lonely and wishes for more company, his abandonment issues and general suspicion isolate him from many other dragons in the clan. He deeply loves his mate, Gwenfair, but has a hard time understanding why she even wants to be around him; he does his best to curb his aggression and paranoid impulses around her, fearing that she will begin to see him differently.
Riftstalker spends his time swimming in the Cavern, caring for injured sea creatures and rescuing fish from Baikal's aquaculture pond. As time has passed, Riftstalker has become gradually more fluent in Draconic and has begun to expand his circle of acquaintances. While he never leaves the Cavern, he has grown fond of the other dragons who live there and will usually pause to speak to anyone who visits.
