The mercurial matriarch of Clan Gryphonwing, Kyriel has long cared more for her whimsical fancies than actual leadership. Her first mate, Gnarl, is the only one who has followed her through her long journey from their birthplace, Windsinger's domain, through the lands of Light, and finally into the realm of Flamecaller.

For a time, she chose Rasurlis as her suitor, a competent lieutenant who handled the day-to-day management of the clan well, but was ultimately under the spell of his power-mad mother and left when she pushed him to depose Kyriel entirely. There have been others, not worth mentioning; for now, she spends her time with Mosaic, a good-natured coatl who doesn't mind that she's no longer the real leader of the clan, and truly just enjoys her whimsical company.

Her true passion is sorcery, and shapeshifting most of all. She studied intensely under a powerful spiral from the Arcane lands. Dark rumors said that he was slowly breaking her mind, obliterating all trace of desire to lead, and ultimately--whether his scheming was real or not--he was ousted from the clan. It concerns some among the clan that another spiral of seemingly similar bent, Zal, appears to be exerting a similar amount of influence over her now.

She uses her shapeshifting magic to aid those who would shed their birth forms; though she seems benevolent, and her price always attractive at first, it sometimes becomes more of a burden than a blessing to its recipient. And sometimes she gives in to her darker desires, wreaking quiet havoc on the lives of those under her care, in the name of whimsy or worse....
