AriaXXXXXXXXXXXXXXGuildmaster
The Adventurer's Journey

Finally, after all those months of work, Aria could breathe. Some time to relax, and enjoy the fruits of her labor. With Karinor taking over for her, she had what seemed like all the time in the world. She busied herself with luggage, packing only the basics: food, clothes and a container for feathers. There would be no report writing or management here. Before she left, she hesitated, concern for the Guild lingering in her mind. Looking back, the big, cheerful smile on the Guardian’s face assuaged her fear. She smiled back, waving at her deputy as she ventured out of the Guild for a nice break.

The Plateau was still breathtaking, with its playful breezes and soft reeds underfoot. The winds were chaotic in their nature, consistent only in that they always seemed to change. Almost like the way there always seemed to be something important happening in the world. The blue-green Skydancer smiled at the familiar chaos, and took a seat at the cliff, admiring the curling white paint in the azure sky. It was calming, and she allowed her thoughts to drift without a care.

What would she do on her day off? Maybe paint, or fly a kite, like the younger Wind dragons enjoyed doing. She could even repair that crooked shelf in her den. And if she did that, she may as well take stock of the inventory, and see about that negotiation-

Aria shook herself out of it, lightly slapping her face. No, there would be no thought of work here. This was her vacation, and she would not waste it. As she continued to lie there, idly watching the clouds, she began to frown. She honestly couldn’t remember the last time she was free. Had her efforts at the Guild really taken so much out of her?

She left her clan for something more exciting, something more than the consistent rhythms and patterns of her clan. She lusted after adventure, to never stop flying, to never stop seeking the secrets of Sorineth. Over time, she collected more than just fanciful stories and souvenirs. Responsibility piled upon her and her comrades, pinning them down where their powers were needed. For the good of others, they sacrificed their freedom. It was ironic, that she created what she sought to leave all that time ago.

Why didn’t she just leave? Nobody was watching. Nothing was stopping her from taking flight on another journey. She laid there, pondering the notion. The winds continued to blow, rustling reeds acting as calming ambient noise to her thoughts. Aria looked towards the horizon, the soaring plains disappearing into the distance, stretching into infinity. She knew that wasn’t true now, but it still called to her all this time later. She shook her head and turned away. That wasn’t her choice to make anymore.

Perhaps it was more than responsibility that kept her there. She could still see in her mind’s eye the desperation of the dying and the crushing emptiness of those who had nothing left. At the same time, she was there to see the scarred Plateau heal, balms and companionship mending the wounds of veterans and survivors. All the sleepless nights and unceasing work was worth it to see a brighter Sorineth. Back when they were just wandering and wondering, it was much the same, lending aid to strangers from other lands. If she was honest with herself, the people they helped were just as important as the adventures they had. She smiled at those fond memories, a party of five bumbling about, trying their best to solve more problems than they caused. Adventure was a thrill, but that sense of gratitude for a job well done, that was satisfaction.

The Skydancer breathed in the cool, soothing air. She was at peace. No doubts, no regrets, just acceptance. Her story as a Wanderer was over, but as a mentor, it continued to wind on. The spirit of adventure never left, it simply took a different shape, ready to be passed on to those who would come next. Like the winds, the challenge and chaos would still be there, a new kind of journey. It would continue, even if Aria wouldn’t see it herself.

She got up, stretching her wings, warmed from noontime sun. She would have to redouble her efforts and educate the young recruits when she returned. There were so many stories, so many lessons she had to impart. Yet,there was one more thing to do. She set her sights on the borders far away, as the winds picked up in speed. She strapped on her goggles, and conjured a gale. She jumped and began to glide, soaring over the vast Plateau to wherever she fancied. She grinned, the thrill of free flight filling her once again.

For today, she could afford to be a little selfish. For today, she was an adventurer once again.
