PikarosXXXXXXXXXXXXXXArtist Dancing Lights "Why?" The Imperial asked, lowering himself to the level of the horned dragon before him. The dragon was silent, and continued through the bamboo clearing. "Why did you give it up?" The dragon with matted fur did not respond, picking her way to give her report. Still, the Imperial persisted, shifting himself to look her in the eye. "We were the firstborn of the Lightweaver, the heirs to all that the Light shines upon. We have power, majesty, elegance, why did you throw it all away to become that?" "Because I am no pawn of the Lightweaver, or any deity. I have a job to do, and you're in the way." The Gaoler growled. The Imperial obliged, and shifted himself from the alcove's entrance. Yet, he continued to watch, questions burning in his mind like the afternoon sun. Could it be that this form is more powerful in combat? Is she ashamed of our heritage? Is this form better somehow? How can that be? He continued to observe, questions unanswered by the utilitarian routine of his subject. He waited patiently for an audience with the Guildmaster, someone who might give more insight than the stoic Gaoler. "It might be because of the Shade. We've gotten reports, about how it hunts, how it corrupts, how invisible it is. Iblis was the first volunteer to fight it. It's one of the few reliable methods to find it, track it before it can hurt anyone else." The blue-green dragon flicked her claws, a gentle gust blowing a parchment from the bamboo shelf. The Imperial gripped the tiny paper in his claws, bowing out to his personal workplace. Under reflections and prisms, he scanned the words. He read of the deep darkness that hid in plain sight, a void that even the light could not pierce. He read of the sentinels of the South, and their thousand-year vigil to keep the darkness contained. He shook his head. Surely such a darkness must succumb to the light? How can the Shade consume even the brightest light? He set the paper down, and raised another prism. He worked his careful art, threading strands of light through the glass, weaving a corona of colour through the reflective surface. Another masterpiece worthy of the Sun's light. In his meticulous work, he noticed something. He noticed the shadows creeping, produced from the light, the central element of his artistry. He adjusted his prism, and the light burnt away shadow. Yet that left another place steeped in darkness. He tried again and again, to no avail, the shadow a constant parallel, a contrast to the luminescent beauty held in his claws. A thought crept forward, even as he railed in disbelief at it: The Light is not omnipotent, or invincible. Just as the Light illuminates, it also blinds, blind to mistakes, to humility. For even the greatest works of the Weaver, have weakness hidden in their shadow. |
"To perform any act halfway is an insult to yourself." Fun Facts Was considered a prodigy with his artistic talents, and left the Sunbeam Ruins very young. Got roped into making Christmas lights once, after being dared that he couldn't do it. Can often be seen awake in the wee hours of the morning, staring at the sun to get 'inspiration'.
