Bewitching or Bewitched?

"Oh, so that's what it does!"

Fionna was given to the clan when she was but a hatchling. This was not to say that her parents didn't want her nor love her. On the contrary, they made sure that she had found a loving, new home like they did for her siblings as it was part of their tradition.

After years of service, dragons from their previous clan would voluntarily offer themselves to their deity. It was considered the highest form of respect they could give as well as receive.

Ensuring that their line was strong and safe, Fionna's parents finally thought it was time to meet their fate in the frozen, hallowed halls of the Icewarden.

Of course, Fionna never really understood it, but neither did she really trouble herself with it. Her interests lay more with potions and spells. By the fourth mooncycle since her arrival, Fionna had already devoured every tome on the clan's incantations, and known concoctions. She had locked herself up in her room, performing experiments. At first, the clan leaders were worried about her. No one in their clan was known to be so engrossed in those arts and they had no idea how to cope.

Still, they thought that since there was no harm in letting the little one pursue her interests, they simply assigned her a guard of sorts. While Nox, her Skydancer guard, was a little younger than she was, he was strict, stern, and perhaps a little rude, but they trusted him to keep her from any serious trouble.

When Fionna finally stepped out of her room, they had been aquainted for the first time. Suffice to say, they didn't get along quite well.

However, Fionna soon grew tired of bickering with the male and simply proceeded to ignore him most of the time.

After mastering all the basics spells and potions, Fionna attempted to make her own contribution to the archives. It went smoothly for a few winters before she inhaled some of the fumes of her most potent mixtures causing her memories to fade slightly every now and then.

She assured the clan leaders that she was fine and that the only memories that were affected were trivial and recoverable... mostly it was about her latest additions to the clan spells and concoctions. As a result, if she didn't write herself notes, she ended up having to start from scratch... which entailed a lot of minor explosions in the lab.

Nox, who is still her personal guard, keeps pestering her about having a journal for her "crazy shenanigans", but being the stubborn, and slightly proud, female that she is, Fionna assures him that everything is under control.

At first, everyone stayed clear of her. Nobody wanted to be anywhere near her strange experiments. It didn't bother her though as she was used to working alone, but with the arrival of a few other dragons, Fionna found herself starting a little school for those who shared her passion for things that bubble and explode.
