Biography

Chai never liked the Southern Icefield. It was always too noisy for her. The winds would howl, the trees would groan, the ice would crack, and the waves would crash against the shore. Only the snow that fell seemed to do so quietly, coming quietly at night and sometimes lingering in the day. She seemed to be the only on in her clan that truly loved the snow, for the others saw it as a curse.

The Southern Icefields did not allow for much to grow in its harsh wilderness, so the dragons of Chai's clan had to etch out their living day by day, night by night. The snow drove away the prey and the heat. Because of this, every pair of hands was valuable. Dragons were all expected to help out and do their part in the clan. Chai, more willing to curl up in her lair with a book than go out into the cold and noise, was assigned the task of scroll keeper by her clan leader.

Chai didn't mind her job. She was expected to keep track of the stores, the jobs that the others were doing, and the various items the clan kept. But then she also had to keep track of the dragons that came and went, some of their own accord, others taken by the harsh environment. Chai never liked it when that happened. Her hands would always shake as she was forced to cross out a name on the list that held all those that lived in her clan.

Eventually, the greatest storm Chai had ever seen descended upon them. The days felt like years as the dragons struggled to keep warm and take care of each other. When it finally abated, few were left, the result of starvation and sickness. Chai was distraught and left that night, wanting to begin anew, away from the harshness of the Icefields.

She traveled for what felt like years, flying across the ocean that stretched out between her old home and her possible future home. When she finally landed on the edges of the Windsinger's realm, she collapsed out of exhaustion, falling into a deep sleep. She was eventually woken up by another coatl. Chai, panicked, tried to run away but collapsed again, unable to go very far. The coatl calmed her down enough to bring her back to his clan, where she was introduced.

Over the days, the other coatl slowly got her to warm up to them. His name turned out to be Autumn. Chai was very thankful for Autumn's help and the pair grew close as time wore on. Before long, however, she needed to earn her place in the lair. She once again offered her talents as a record-keeper to the clan leader and was once again placed in charge of making sure dragons were kept track of.

Autumn continued to visit her, asking her questions about the Icefields and learning stories that she had heard during her time in the Icefields. Over time, Chai grew to appreciate the other coatl's presence. Somewhere along the way, the two became close. Somewhere along the way, they learned about each other. Somewhere along the way, the two fell into a deep love for each other, and have remained that way.

Chai is content with her life in her new clan. There is quiet and peace and a loving mate to tend to.
