Yesterday I had another customer wander into my sanctuary.

She was a young dragonet, her clothes ragged and torn, a stuffed ox clutched in one talon and in the other, a small bag of coins. They must have been for me because she scrambled up to my rotted desk and slapped them up there. "There," She had said. "Those are for you."
I had searched through them. I had said, "There are not enough in there. I need 4. There is only 3."
The girl's eyes had become wet. "My momma said I could come to the magical magician. But I only have 3 coins."
My throat had become tight and I had swallowed back my own tears. No, no sympathy for this stranger girl. "Apologies," I had said, "But if you don't pay the correct fee, I cannot serve."

And that had been that.

I am bored with my job. There is never anything special. But apparently the dragons in charge, "authorities," as we call them, are determined to make this the most miserable, gruesome place for us. So I stay.

I am bored with the dragons here. They are miserable and all they talk about is "Stork this, Stork that," And I am getting quite sick of it. Who gave them permission to pick on me? No one.

And yet, no one stood up for me either. So they think it's okay.

I am scared of her. Scared of them all, really. Some are more of an annoyance than anything, but most are quite intimidating. It's not like they don't want to be intimidating. They are trying very, very hard to be scary, and are succeeding in their quote on quote "passion." On the rare days that one of our employees is sick, I will take up some other jobs. But other than that, fortune-telling and magic are the jobs they assigned me. So a magician I will serve to be.

At least the crystal ball will keep me company in this hell hole.
