 Alas, I find myself a stranger, in an unwelcoming place in a strange, unwelcoming land. I have been in this wretched place for now a year and a half. I fear that I am losing myself. Losing me. Losing my dear, dear Suzanna. Suzanna is all alone at home, without her father, without her mother, to keep her safe, to keep watch. She was 15 when I set out on my business trip. My business trip is long gone. Her birthday was 6 months ago -- I expected to be home by then. Her birthday was in March. It is now September. It is cool outside. I fear the man that roams the halls, for he is mighty and strong. I fear the woman lurking in her room, sweeping the floors of our abode. I fear the beast that grows inside me, slowly, slowly, slowly, fighting back tears, a tantrum sprouting in my chest. I want to go home. 16 months away. I wonder where my dear Suzanna is, what she's doing, what she's thinking. If only. If only I had more magic. Oh Susanna, oh don't you cry for me... For I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee. I whisper the solemn hymn every night before I sleep. I sleep in a closet. I eat in a closet. I do everything in my closet. The storage closet. I guess it makes sense -- They are figuring out what to do with me, but if I am not mistaken, I think they forgot about me. Oh well. And when I find Susanna -- I'll fall onto the ground. Things are dreary in the closet with nobody in my space but for a Ruby Webwing and 6 rats, occasionally, that I assume had also gotten lost. I don't have enough food for the 7 of us. |

SUSANNA Susanna is my only friend today, and even then, she is nervous around me, fluttering around the storage closet at any unexpected move I make. Named after my beautiful daughter.
