(In Reedsweep Town, the Gaolers guarded the town from threats. In the absence of a unified town to protect, the Gaolers felt unsure of what to do, and descended into the Tunnels. They eke out a living farming the organisms growing in the caves and tunnels, sometimes following underground rivers out to the sea.)
