Stein is a local mage in my clan. He specializes as a Necromancer and Healer, using his magic primarily to mend broken bodies and spirits. His magic is raw and mostly untrained, even after years in the Quarry, but Stein's magical power is incredibly potent. Stein continues to be a very powerful mage in the clan and helps advise on topics that other mages overthink on. Stein is not particularly smart, but he is magic savvy. He often thinks of ideas that others don't. His existence as a golden-hearted Necromancer causes its own set of complications as well.

Stein is a rather unique mage in that he has learned on his magic through pure thought casting. Stein developed this ability in order to cope with his enormous magical volatility and his lack of formal training. This technique is typically incredibly dangerous because it is chaotic and unfocused. Most mages need some sort of focus such as incantation or glyphs, but Stein can simply think magic into a spell, making him unparalleled in speed and spell power. He simply has indomitable will in casting, allowing him to cast like this. It is not advised, however, unless one is a master mage.

Stein is best friends with Weir and sometimes combines their spirits, with both of their express consents, into a third, unique personality Weiss.

Stein is a teacher to Mauroban who seeks to learn Necromancy from Stein. Stein is the only source of Necromancy in the clan because Necromancy is typically taboo. There are no books on the magic in the Library, and none of the other mages specialize in it if they use it at all. Stein is happy to teach his Necromancy, because most Necromancers only make the stereotype worse with what they do with it. If Stein can teach just one pupil how to use Necromancy safely and without dark magic involved, he has succeeded, he feels.

Bones doesn't much like Stein because Stein's magic and being are rather unnatural. Stein is barely alive anymore, and tests done by Bones basically confirm this. Stein's heart rate is incredibly slow, Stein's temperature is only slightly above room temperature, and his metabolism is barely active enough to keep his cells alive. Stein is basically a zombie at this point.

Weir's parents, Nightfall and Stargazer, are uncomfortable with Stein being so close to their daughter, as they are spirits and most spirits have great weariness for Necromancers. Like with local spirits though, Stein is starting to grow on Weir's parents.

Lodon and Stein get along well enough, but Stein rouses spirits in the Hall of the Dead so Lodon prefers not to have Stein around most of the time. Stein, though he helps with Lodon's injuries, sometimes makes them worse by his very presence too.

Stein has taught Bacchus a small amount of Necromancy to help Bacchus' spells last longer and to make Bacchus himself live a little healthier.

Before the Breach was finally sealed during the Bounty of the Elements, Stein and Silbern were conspiring to get Silbern close to Breach so that Silbern could dream near it and look through it in the process. Silbern had hoped to devise some method by which the Breach could be closed, but the two did not get the chance, which was probably for the best, as the Breach was incredibly dangerous and was closed off to almost everyone.
