Biography:
A long time ago, Lodon lived a fairly sheltered life in the Everbloom Gardens of the Viridian Labyrinth. Lodon was on the path to become a druid, like his parents, and their parents before them. A mage whose sole purpose was to uphold a balanced flow of magic and growth of life around themselves. Fate had different ideas for Lodon, however. When Lodon was around adolescence, a traveling Wildclaw priest wandered into Lodon's shire. Dressed in foreign garb and accompanied by a Centauri companion and a cart of religious mementos and potionry, the stranger stopped in a nearby field. The younglings were fascinated with the preacher, and the parents wary but not intolerant. The Wildclaw spread no message of any god, just his own personal wisdom and a few pieces of sweet candy.
Lodon got to know the Priest a little more than most. Though young, Lodon wanted to know about the world beyond his home. The stranger had stories and morals to share, of course, and the two got along swimmingly. The Wildclaw stayed near for nearly a year and was starting to gain some friendliness with the clans around. The Priest was well-mannered and tolerant of the regional superstitions, and many dragons came to trust the priest. Soon enough, however, things became terrible.
One night, as Lodon returned home from a fruiting patch of trees, a violet glimmer had begun to grown along the horizon. Rushing home, Lodon found a blaze unlike anything he had ever seen. Vibrant flames of various purples and whites. The flames though, strangely, nearly invisible in the dusk light, destroyed all that they touched. No fire nor water magic seemed to halt them as Lodon's neighbors fled into the nearby Gladevines, hoping the flames could not progress through the waterlogged grounds. The Priest and his Centauri companion remained behind the rest, urging the slower members along. Lodon rushed up to help as well, but the Priest was already using his last hours. Dancing across his body, and within his burns and scrapes, the violet flames burned the priest from the inside out.
Eventually, the Priest collapsed from these wounds. Lodon and the Centauri pulled him along, but the Priest was heavier than their exhausted bodies could manage. Dragging themselves into a pond instead, Lodon and the Centaur watched the flames lick at the surface after devouring the bank's vegetation. During the night, the priest died As day broke, the flames abated and by noon, they were gone. All that was left was a blackened wasteland with a smattering of ponds. A few of which had survivors. One of which had Lodon, a disintegrated Wildclaw, and a Centaur. The Priest, amazingly, was the only fatality. Lodon was left with his scars and his curse.
Those flames had burned him inside and out. His wounds from that night never fully heal which leads Lodon to bandage himself and to surround himself in a black guise. When the fire flares up, in response to a buildup of magic, the fire reignites inside of his wounds and lungs, causing him to glow internally and shed violet embers and vile smoke. Because using normal magic increases the rate of burnout and he has very little stability in his soul from the fire, Lodon has to rely on his own blood to cast magic.
For a time, Lodon remained under the care of the clan's druids. They tried every trick they knew, from healing remedies, nature magic, and repeated bathing in treated water to communing with spirits. Nothing appeared able to strip the invasive magic from Lodon, or, at least, none that the mages could find. Lodon, using his learnings from the priest, chose a different path. Believing that he would die if he stayed, Lodon left his home in search of absolution from his curse.
Lodon traveled place to place for several years, the priest's Centaur companion joining Lodon on the mission. It was some sort of repayment or thanks, Lodon figured at the time, for trying to help the Centaur's friend on that fateful night. Needless to say, however, Lodon did not find answers in his voyages. Eventually, as a result, Lodon decided to settle down and live with his curse. Lodon had found himself in the Quarry when he had decided to stop his search.
Lodon is now the clan's undertaker, and he handles the Hall of the Dead beneath the Hall of the Divines. He handles funeral rituals as best as he can. Lodon was once a traveling priest, so he knows many different rituals and how to abide by them, as long as he gets a good reminder from something like the smell of a book.
For the most part, most dragons pay Lodon very little mind besides with passing pleasantries. Lodon has been known to socialize amicably with Bacchus as well as Stein. But, Stein's presence typically makes the spirits that inhabit the Hall of the Dead more active, and Lodon considers Stein's Necromancy profane. But, Lodon considers Stein a good soul regardless of this.
Due to Lodon's rather precarious health, he is often in contact with Doctor Bones. Bones maintains Lodon through frequent medical check-ups. Many times, Lodon has needed to take courses of antibiotics, but painkillers and burn cream are typically enough to keep Lodon healthyish.
