Echelon

Not every Guardian can be a perfect defender. Echelon never did reach the full size of most of his peers, and he was born with a twisted hind foot besides, that limited his ability to move or fight on the ground. But like his siblings and parents before him, he felt the pull of his kind's noble duty, leaving his birth clan and travelling north through the charred wastes and bleak desert until he reached the Sunbeam Ruins.

The good news was that Echelon discovered his Charge quickly. She was also a Guardian, and a stranger to these lands like him, hailing from the Plaguebringer's domain. The bad news was that she was the last creature in need of his protection. Bigger, stronger, more capable in every way, she offered her own services as a bodyguard to the Redwood Reach clan and shrugged off the lesser male the way she might dismiss a flittering bird or an itch between her scales.

Echelon couldn't abandon her to seek another Charge even if he wanted to. The morose, dusty-pink Guardian settled down in the clan as well, trying to come to terms with the fact that his destiny has put him in a position of irrelevance.
