Biography
THE INQUISITOR
» captain of the guard
Head of the guard, truth mage and torturer, and- most importantly- Elysia's trusted right hand. While they say you ought to fear the Queen's wrath, it is Kabel who will come for you in the night. She once trained as a paladin of Light, until she was exiled from the warrior orders for her bloodthirst. There isn't a subtle bone in her body, but that's alright, she has little use for politics.
» ties that bind
elysia » the Queen is her greatest priority, the subject of her complete respect and devotion. unfortunately, she suspects the relationship is rather one-sided.
the watchman » in her first month as guard captain, she tried to have him deposed, but the old man is so well-loved by the locals she was nearly driven out of town for the offense. they’ve since come to grudgingly accept each other, but there’s no love lost between them. her only consolation is that she’s technically his superior.
» echoes of the past
Kabel's entire life has been filled with those who dislike her; she's learned to snap back but otherwise ignore them. Her childhood mentors scolded her for taking her training too seriously, which she always found baffling. Was she not enforcing the Lightweaver's will by slaying the Shadowborn? But her enthusiasm made others "uncomfortable", her interrogation techniques were "inhumane", smashing Shadow eggs was "uncalled for" and "wrong". Bah. She didn't need them.
She found in Elysia a kindred spirit. The Queen could no longer afford to get her claws dirty, her reputation was just too important, and so Kabel became her hands in the world. The day she was installed as Captain of the Guard, they nearly had riots on their hands. A Lightborn inflicting laws on their beloved refuge? Not likely. She and Elysia resorted to using force to regain control, and the guard's relationship with the town has been strained ever since. While she reveled in the power at first, she finds herself growing restless; she's never really adjusted to civilian life, and even the Queen gets exasperated with her hypervigilance. Unfortunately, while Kabel dreamed of being a close friend and confidant, Elysia was only ever interested in her as an employee. She's entrenched in the Pointe's affairs, now, no going back, but she finds herself with few allies and no friends to speak of. She's the only permanent resident of the Pointe who hails from the Light Flight, and while she'll happily crow about it in public, she's oddly self-conscious about it one-on-one. She keeps a private shrine to the Lightweaver in her quarters, and has recently been pushing for an all-Flights temple to be built on the premises. (Not that she's had any luck swaying the leadership but, well, it's the thought that counts.) |
