"There will always be magic."
❁ STORY
Her fascination with the natural world might be considered unusual for a Plague dragon. But it’s not as if she’s planting seeds and cultivating a pretty garden like Osprey. No, she mostly uses plants and other matter to create amazing potions… or undead minions to help her out with her work. She’s not called the Witch of the Woods for nothing; Tarryn specialises in using flora (usually pilfered from Osprey’s garden by her unnatural helpers) to create venoms and acids and potent diseases (and sometime their antidotes, it should be noted). Tarryn creates animated creatures out of the remains of dragons and other plants to help her make even more unpredictable concoctions. Many dragons are slightly terrified of her. In tune with her Plague heritage, Tarryn likes diseases. She tells them her experiments (which have a habit of reacting violently) are to find cures for things. Maybe a serum to prevent gembond from being passed on through contact or even a formula to cleanse water of impurities. That’s what she tells them, anyway. More often than not, any strange outbreaks can be entirely attributed to Tarryn’s fascination with sickness. They can’t prove it, but many in the lair suspect that she’s more interested in pushing the limits of their immune systems than anything else. She’s treated with wariness because of it. Dragons have died in the past from coming into contact with her… goop. And they no longer ask questions when a skeleton-vine creation moseys into the lair looking for something, all that matters is that whispers of her doings tend to keep the more superstitious dragons from trespassing. Good thing too, Anthelion gets her creativity at disposing bodies from Tarryn. The fact that she’s possibly the one masterminding violent epidemics aside, Tarryn’s really quite a nice dragon. She’s lovely – not that most dragons ever get to see that, especially if they bug her unannounced. And she smiles plenty (though many find it unsettling); and when in a good mood she radiates enthusiasm as infectious as her viral concoctions. Although she’s been banned from Pencil’s library for myriad reasons, Tarryn loves reading and doing research and taking notes. Oh yes. Calla is often seen borrowing tomes from the library for her to read. The fact that Callana is the only one who can get away with calling her Rin is evidence enough for the affection Tarryn holds for her. Regardless that she keeps little glowing insects captive to light her workspace, she’s surprisingly gentle. Before Fen (and before Jemma); most of the residents would reluctantly turn to Tarryn for treatment. She still assists on occasion, but mostly they’re all too scared to trust her. Tarryn has a way with others though; warmth it's rarely suspected she's capable of is evident around her family. No one would’ve said she’d make a good mother before it happened. And even though she and Callana aren’t necessarily the best role models, Anthelion turned out just fine. ❁ OTHER
