" I go too fast, think too slow. You could do better, don't you know?
I'm wracking my brain for a new, improved way, To let you know, you're more to me than what I know how to say. All I've got is this little rhyme, And it's not enough to tell you I wish you were mine. "
❁ STORY
In her soul, Callana is a wanderer, at her happiest on an unknown road heading somewhere far off and undiscovered. The wilds were her home for so long, for much of her youth, her sense of adventure always calling her out to find somewhere new, too strong to resist. She’s always wanted to see the world; all of Sorneith, every last little corner. It was never just travel for travel’s sake, though. Callana is always looking. For stories and myths, songs and customs, strange trinkets and animals and architecture that are unique to a location, a clan, a family. She has an extensive collection of trinkets and notebooks filled with her recordings from all over the world. Even her familiar, Farah, is from some tiny region she’s never specified. And she’s not done adding yet. The winds always call her onwards, never staying anywhere long. At least, not until she got to the Reliquary. Somehow, it felt like home. Or rather, Tarryn did. Tarryn who teased her Calla is a beautiful flower you know, who laughs when Callana rolls her eyes and scrunches up her nose good naturedly at her bad jokes and nicknames. Tarryn who convinced her to start a family. Tarryn who gave her a reason to call the Reliquary home. Well, she did make other friends too, but Tarryn was by far the deciding factor (and also completely oblivious to her affections). Blacklight and Bereave, who cheerfully encouraged all of Callana’s flustered advances, Daeddrin who tried to give her pointers. Crossfire who travelled for the clan and had tales about politics and clans with ancient lineages. It worked out in the end, she thinks. Even though she wasn’t thrilled at the concept, she quite enjoyed raising Anthelion, still dotes on her all the time, and brings her back things from her travels. Even though Anthelion is grown, Callana still teaches the hatchlings to sing, sometimes in the early morning to get an unhappy face from Venin when woken by a chorus of off-key hatchlings. And she tells them stories in whispers when it’s long past their bedtime just to encourage their rebellious instincts. Often the tales she brings back from the corners of Sorneith are embellished for the benefit of the hatchlings, but nobody minds. She continues to share the less exaggerated versions of her sojourns with Tahvi, the archaeologist loves to hear about new places to explore and new histories to find. The pair can get very engrossed in swapping stories. Sometimes, even, when she sets out on a new adventure (usually with Tarryn these days) she begins her journey aboard Kairos’ ship. The pirate knows so many strange places, clans Callana would never have found without her incredible knowledge of the seas, stories she would never have heard. There are so many possibilities out there and it’s nice to have friends to travel with. She doesn’t know why she didn’t do this sooner. ❁ OTHER
