STORY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Serendipity is cursed. That’s the only explanation she can accept. How it happened is beyond her, it’s been this way as long as she can remember. But ill fortune follows in her footsteps and she sees things. Often horrible, awful things; she counts it a blessing when instead of being terrible it’s merely vaguely threatening. An anxious, mournful dragon, Serendipity rarely smiles. She rarely has cause to.

Upon first arriving at the Reliquary, she had no intention of staying long; that had long since become routine. But there’s a presence in the canyon that she can’t explain – that no one can explain. She felt it as soon as she landed in their main courtyard, a peace that settled around her like a fond hug from an old friend (something she’d never experience but that’s what she imagined it would feel like). “The clan’s patron god brings good luck,” she’d been told by her hostess. Serendipity remained silently sceptical. In spite of her good judgement, however, she’d lingered a few days, just to test this theory. And no one died.

Her bad luck was cancelled out by this mysterious patron of theirs. Finally she had a place she could stay without fear of bringing unfortunate things down upon their heads. A fine development, she supposes. She feels ungrateful to some extent, she still has the awful dreams, still sees horrible things in the auras of those she looks at and still wears a mask to deal with that. She should be thankful, but she wishes she could do without her gifts for prophecy. She wishes she could describe to Riverstone exactly how depressing and stressful it is, wishes River would stop being so enthusiastic about it all. The quiet kinship she shares with Jaelyr and Venin are nice though, that’s new for her and she’s glad for them.

In exchange for the safety they’ve shared with her, Serendipity occasionally braves the world without her mask. Using her gift to warn of impending events or things that might hamper their lives is the least she can do. And sometimes she bestows what advice she can on those seeking guidance. It scares her, coming to grips with the world now that she can actively be part of it, but she thinks it might just be worth it. In the end.

OTHER

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
ORIGIN / Serendipity’s family was normal, as far as families go. Until it wasn’t anymore. Someone arrived at their lair, someone claiming proficiency with magic that would protect their warrior-less clan should trouble come a-calling. This dragon, whoever they were, had strange words and magic and they were not alone. Serri doesn’t remember much of that time, just the sand and then the darkness. She remembers how much it hurt, how she could feel herself changing, she remembers crying a lot but not being able to change anything. She remembers wishing whoever was doing this too her would just die. die Then the hole she’d been kept in shook, like reality was folding in on itself and crumbling away. It was the first time she’d seen the sky in a long time. There was nothing but sand where her family’s lair had been. And it was filled with corpses. She ran. But everywhere she went folks died. Died like she was bringing a plague to their hearth. Like the sands had cursed her. They had. She kept running.

Fact / She was never given a name. Weapons don’t have names. Curses do, but whoever did this to her clearly didn’t think she deserved one. Since everyone she met fell to a suspicious demise, she remained nameless a long time. While not particularly apt, Serendipity was the moniker assigned her by one blind seer she met in passing. It wasn’t until she arrived at the Reliquary and Bereave told her in no uncertain terms that ‘Serendipity is a mouthful. I’m calling you Serri’ that she felt like she’d truly found a place to belong.

Likes / Being involved in things, the feeling of having friends, being home, quiet moments and soft rain. There’s a glorious sense of melancholy in it.

Dislikes / When she’s asked about her past, bad luck, the dreams she has when she sleeps, being without her mask.

Interests / She’s never had much time to develop hobbies, but she finds much more satisfaction in helping out around the lair than in hiding. She has little reason to hide anymore and so she does odd jobs about the canyon. Recently, she's picked up an interest in incense making; she's not very good yet but she is determined. She just likes feeling useful. Typically, she avoids the hatchery though. That’s a sorrow she couldn’t handle.
