"Tired of feeling lost; tired of letting go. Look for the light that leads me home."
❁ STORY
Serendipity is cursed. That’s the only explanation she can accept. How it happened is beyond her, it’s been this way as long as she can remember. But ill fortune follows in her footsteps and she sees things. Often horrible, awful things; she counts it a blessing when instead of being terrible it’s merely vaguely threatening. An anxious, mournful dragon, Serendipity rarely smiles. She rarely has cause to. Upon first arriving at the Reliquary, she had no intention of staying long; that had long since become routine. But there’s a presence in the canyon that she can’t explain – that no one can explain. She felt it as soon as she landed in their main courtyard, a peace that settled around her like a fond hug from an old friend (something she’d never experience but that’s what she imagined it would feel like). “The clan’s patron god brings good luck,” she’d been told by her hostess. Serendipity remained silently sceptical. In spite of her good judgement, however, she’d lingered a few days, just to test this theory. And no one died. Her bad luck was cancelled out by this mysterious patron of theirs. Finally she had a place she could stay without fear of bringing unfortunate things down upon their heads. A fine development, she supposes. She feels ungrateful to some extent, she still has the awful dreams, still sees horrible things in the auras of those she looks at and still wears a mask to deal with that. She should be thankful, but she wishes she could do without her gifts for prophecy. She wishes she could describe to Riverstone exactly how depressing and stressful it is, wishes River would stop being so enthusiastic about it all. The quiet kinship she shares with Jaelyr and Venin are nice though, that’s new for her and she’s glad for them. In exchange for the safety they’ve shared with her, Serendipity occasionally braves the world without her mask. Using her gift to warn of impending events or things that might hamper their lives is the least she can do. And sometimes she bestows what advice she can on those seeking guidance. It scares her, coming to grips with the world now that she can actively be part of it, but she thinks it might just be worth it. In the end. ❁ OTHER
