"Shine until there’s nothing left."
❁ STORY
A quiet, almost solemn, dragon, folks would be forgiven for thinking she was a gloomy, waspish hobgoblin. In truth she’s just very bad with social interaction. Painfully shy, Jae has very little to say to anyone at all. The exception to this, of course, being Kairos with whom she’s been known to smile even. That’s not to say she’s rude or grumpy, quite the opposite, she’s gentle and kind and empathetic (something some dragons could learn a thing or two about really), but getting her to open up on that front is often a trial and a half. Even when tasked with healing someone in the lair, she generally wears a stoic expression. Her bedside manner is selective at best. Her skill set isn’t as broad as she lets folks believe, but she does have minor talents with healing. She has to know some things being the primary caster aboard the Peripeteia. Her greatest other asset is her talent at mind magic. Jaelyr hates it with a passion, finding it to be an invasive practice and a betrayal of trust. Memory doctors can tamper with recollections, add new details or remove sections entirely. They can block things away should someone not want to deal with it, or uncover things long repressed; assist with amnesia or dementia, aid someone suffering from mental illness, stave off anxiety or help them through depression. They can also reconfigure personalities and ‘program’ someone to be a certain way. It’s a lot of power for a small dragon and Jae really dislikes being asked to change the memories of those they’ve robbed (to delete interactions or otherwise). But mostly she just hates how much she enjoys it. For someone as tiny as she is, in a world full of giants, it gives her a sense of control she’d otherwise lack. She finds it hard to look someone in the eye knowing that she could, if the mood struck her, remove all the aspects of their personality she found distasteful. It does make her a useful dragon to have around the Reliquary, however. Anthelion in particular finds her talents remarkable (and it probably helps that Anth knows what it’s like to be afraid of her gifts). She’s one of few dragons Jae can tolerate. As a polylinguist who studies (and learns) the myriad languages of Sorneith, Jae is also valuable to the clan when it comes to translating. While not something she does a great deal, she does find it quite pleasant to be wanted for skills other than memory tampering. And regardless of her poor inter-personal skills and magical talents she is accepted with warmth by the clan’s residents. It’s not something she’s familiar with. She rather likes it. ❁ OTHER
