"Laws of Salvage state that the locator of an item gets to keep it and… well I don’t see your name on that."
❁ STORY
Possibly too trusting to be a pirate, Kairos is charming and good natured, softly spoken, but always ready with a bright smile. Her wit is matched only by her claws for speed and while she’s not the most eloquent of dragons she has learned to be mighty good at haggling. In spite of this, her heart of gold made her an easy target for less than trustworthy merchants. Rather than accept her losses, though, Kairos is fonder of taking back what she sold and keeping the money as well. She finds it maximises profit nicely. Due to her sunny disposition, however, many folks dismiss the notion that she’s a pirate out of hand; how can someone so friendly be a thief, after all. This works nicely enough for her, folks are less suspicious if they like you. So it proved when her ship the Peripeteia made port at the Reliquary one overcast afternoon (a ship she stole, originally designed only for sea travel but later retrofitted with flight capabilities by Kairos and Jae). Initially met with distrust, Kairos makes an excellent first impression and even if her words aren’t the fanciest, her logic is often inescapable. She’s learned to be skilled with the words she has, not eloquent by any means, but earnest. The leaders of the Reliquary didn’t like the idea of an active criminal being associated with them, but Kairos pointed out that her ‘business’ would do wonders for their coffers; that her first mate, Jaelyr, was a master at convincing folks that what just happened wasn’t a pirate raid; and that her skill with the weather would make their canyon much better at providing food. None of those were things any of the councillors could argue with. A competent mage, Kairos’ primary skill lies in manipulating the weather. And it is manipulation only, she can’t control nature, she’s no deity. But holding off a storm until she can find a safe port is doable, likewise encouraging fine weather for healthy crops. But there’s no stopping a hurricane once it’s started, no taming the wild seas. Still, she can whip up a nice breeze when the situation demands, and sometimes that’s enough to lend her speed to outrun pursuers or beat a storm to safety. Jae, her second in command, has long been her only solid companion. While that changed when they arrived at the Reliquary, both of them making friends with the residents there, Jae remains her closest confidante. Although Jae is more reserved and doesn’t speak anywhere near as much as her companion, the pair often banter cheerfully, jokes concealed in sarcasm and eye rolls. It’s baffling to most onlookers but the rare occasions that see Jae smile always involve Kairos. Ji Qeng took the most interest in Kairos and her pirating, intrigued by the possibility of expanding his merchanting endeavours. Too young to leave the clan and go with them, Ji Qeng has to settle for entrusting his business with her. She hasn’t let him down yet. And truthfully, she’s quite fond of the little nocturne. ❁ OTHER
