"The Winds will always sing you home. Even if you’re not sure of where it is yourself."
❁ STORY
Cheerful and pleasant, Helix is a charming dragon; so well-mannered and his dress always immaculate, he puts a lot of emphasis on his presentation. He prefers when folks think well of him. And while his exterior is respectable, he’s no less intelligent for that. A well-read dragon, Helix thinks of himself as an academic. Unlike Pencil, however, he doesn’t also feel that he’s too good for the rest of the (less well-read) clan. He’s warm and friendly, open and probably a little too trusting; the perfect dragon to deliver post. He even whistles. Whether the letter is to be sent to a dragon within the lair, or if it’s leaving, Helix and his harpy aides are swift and efficient messengers. But letters only leave the clan after Pencil has proofread them. Obviously. Helix does much of the travelling himself, especially when he doesn’t know if the recipient clan is Beastclan friendly. Detac, his first assistant, makes sure he isn’t run off his feet though. The harpy is perfectly happy making any job Helix can’t, or dislikes, is taken care of. Helix’s familiar, Kritch, is the only one almost always at the post office, watching over things and making sure no one touches anything they shouldn’t. As he’s such a kind, approachable dragon, Helix has much less trouble making friends than his mate. Pencil might be firmly of the belief that her intellectual prowess makes her better than others, but Helix wants to actively share his knowledge. Between delivering mail, he does his best to tutor others – not just hatchlings, but adults too – on how to best present themselves to make a good impression. He fails a lot, but he has made plenty of good connections. Winter plays chess with him now (he misses Exarch, though he is probably the only dragon who does) and they chat about all sorts of theories and puzzles. Sometimes Jaelyr or Tahvi might stop by the post office to discuss something, and there are plenty of others in the lair who think of him fondly too. He doesn’t resent the ones who aren’t interested in academia. After all, Chevron might not know the entire history of the Hewn City, but Helix can’t pick a lock. He’s perfectly willing to accept that some folks are smart at other things. (But that doesn’t mean he thinks it’s fine for Chevron to wear a skull on his face.) He loves his family, the whole mismatched lot of them. He would never have thought to find such kindness in the dark of the Woods. It’s sweeter, he thinks, for being so unexpected. ❁ OTHER
