"Every decision you make - or don't make - is just a thread in a great tapestry of possibility. Your fate is not set, not usually, but it can be."
❁ STORY
There are oracles who see the future – or bits of it anyway – and fortune tellers who can divine some things and not others. And then there is Shiana. For her, the future and fates of others are not simply something she can see and share. They are things that can be changed. She says the lives of everyone make up an ethereal weaving, the directions of those lives could go anywhere with various probability, until the event comes to pass and threads are woven together. Her magic allows her to edit the way those threads line up; to change the fates of individuals, change the course of their lives, to ensure two threads will meet at some point. Or to pull a thread from the tapestry entirely. It is perhaps because of how dangerous this could be that she chose to remain in the canyon, and perhaps why this was allowed. But it could also be that when she tried to leave, the innate tugging of her Search turned Shiana around, pulled her back. It’s considered rare for a guardian’s Charge to be where they’re from, and yet Aphid was right there (albeit not initially thrilled about having a large swampy dragon watching over her). And yet, despite staying for her Charge, Shiana ended up integrated happily by the other residents. Some more so than others. Shiana maintains a fairly official, almost standoffish demeanour, but once cracked she has a cheeky streak and a twinkling smile. Her appreciation for bad jokes and big-sister outlook on some more mischievous antics made it a matter of time before Blacklight declared her a great friend to have. (Oracular gifts seem odd on a dragon her size, so said Blacklight once, and then laughingly dubbed her the buff prophet, a moniker Shiana finds amusing and Aphid thinks is childish.) She found a kindred oracular spirit in Serendipity, both with sight that can be problematic if used for the wrong reasons. Shiana is fairly certain Serri appreciates her gravitas more than Riverstone’s eccentric enthusiasm. She even found a place with Fen (shocking to the other residents who are accustomed to Fen rejecting all company). While she wasn’t raised by a sect of any kind, her gifts give her a certain level of respect and Fen refers to her as the High Priestess. Whether that has anything to do with his own strange past is unclear but the two of them converse in low voices and if she can bring out an amicable side in him then it’s all for the best. And with all that she found herself growing more and more involved in the day to day life of the clan. Not running anything – Eleven forbid – and not on the council, but she functions as an advisor for Kieri on occasion and sometimes even works with Crossfire in an ambassadorial capacity. Needless to say, her ability to ensure some events are more likely than others is of great benefit to the clan. But no, she won’t write your future to ensure you meet your soul mate, sorry Blacklight. ❁ OTHER
