❁ STORY

River likes rocks. Yes she does; lots of rocks. All different kinds of rocks. Smooth ones, rough ones, bright ones, dark ones, striped ones, shiny ones, all of the rocks. Rocks are just the greatest things and she spends much of her time acquiring new ones to line up nicely in her quarters. Those piles of pebbles? That’s her. Aren’t they great? Her fondness for rocks translates to many other earth-related substances and led to her fondness of pottery and statues. Clay is like squishy stone; what’s not to like about that? Her little statuette likenesses actually sell quite well, too.

She utilises the gems and crystals she has acquired to divine the future. It’s all very exciting. And while her skill at making accurate ‘guesses’ about things leave quite a bit to be desired, she’s getting rather good at predicting the weather. The more superstitious dragons in the clan frequently visit her to ask about harvests and the best places to gather food or hunt. So she doesn’t get it right every time. Big deal.

A soft, bright dragon who sees the potential in everyone, Riverstone has always been a little more eccentric than some members of the clan can handle and struggled to make friends. Or rather, she thinks of most everyone she likes as a friend but often the same is not said in reverse. She’s polite and kind and anxiously determined to impress. Her strange almost-isolation might even be what led her to adopt Feldspar; though it’s commonly assumed she simply mistook him for a rock and brought him home to add to her collection, motherhood happened accidentally. Whether the same thing happened again with Tahvi is unclear, though at least she isn’t named after a stone.

Nevermore, an artist who lived in the clan and passed away during their relocation to Dragonhome, was about the only real friend Riverstone had. Seven was always nice to her, but mostly everyone else seemed too busy for her; too busy for her gently tentative warnings and vague weather predictions. Lately she’s been getting better at the whole socialising thing; Feldspar’s been helping her. Serendipity is really very good as an oracle, she sees things, River is quite enthusiastic about her chances of learning from the soft skydancer. And Aora, she’s so nice; she’s even been getting along more with Winter and Bereave. She thinks the move to Dragonhome was definitely the best decision the clan has ever made. Kieri is such a nice girl for making it happen.

Simple things make her smile and she’s quite easy to get on with most of the time. Despite her somewhat vague seeming nature, River is very perceptive and provides the clan with some surprisingly wise advice. River has the ability to see beyond what others want her to and get to the heart of the matter.

ORIGIN / A true Water dragon, River was born to a clan of oracles and others gifted with various kinds of Sight. She, unfortunately, lacked an innate talent for it. And some things just can’t be taught. Still, she went looking for a teacher, intending to become a proper oracle and return home. That’s… not what happened. She’s bad with directions, easily tricked and a distracted dragon at the best of times. Needless to say, when she found a place where dragons weren’t trying to take everything she had to her name (cough, Bereave), she figured she might as well just stay.

Fact / Easily the most gullible dragon in the lair. Riverstone takes everything at face value and is highly sensitive to insults. Even jokes at her expense can result in teary eyes. She doesn’t like that she’s so easily upset and works on being a little less vulnerable. Denara is her role model in that respect.

Likes / Stones of absolutely any kind, she’s enamoured with the earth and is probably the most pleased to be living in Dragonhome, the origin of dragonkind. She enjoys making wind chimes and dreamcatchers too, she hangs them all around her part of the lair.

Dislikes / Faithless, unkind dragons. Cruel words hold a lot of power for hurting and River doesn’t like seeing others hurt (doesn’t like it for herself either).

Interests / Sometimes she uses the old art room that used to belong to Nevermore to make pots or little clay statues. She often uses them as gifts. Since Nevermore's demise, the art room has become more or less River's and her clay work has expanded. Many of Nevermore’s belongings remain kept tidily within the space, they were good friends and River does her best to preserve Never’s memory.
