The Second
The Failte Flight was born from a small, but strong fae named Riether. Riether was born to a large clan in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where she grew up with her childhood best friend, Oskeous. The two grew up on the shoreline of the Windswept Plateau, finding comfort in a cool breeze against their wings and the sea at their claws. They began a family together when they were young, thanking Tidelord each day for their three gentle hatchlings; Ferric, Cactus and Hawkspring. As their offspring grew, their personalities and skills bloomed. Ferric, who inherited his mother’s grit and his father’s strength, volunteered himself to serve the Tidelord. Riether often said it was the proudest moment of her life within the water clan. Cactus, their kindest and most timid child, met a snapper on the edge of their territory and fell head over claws for him. It wasn’t much longer before she left home to start a family, though she visited during the Wavecrest Saturnalia. In the years that followed, the water flight grew increasingly distant from Tidelord. Riether’s clan lost their home-- smashed by the hurricane that cut the connection between the deity and his followers. Not only had the clan lost their home, they’d lost their trust in eachother. A battle broke out between the dragons, two hundred dragons violently divided on whether to stay in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, or to journey off to safer lands. Heartbroken but determined for a better life, Riether and Oskeous decided to leave their home. It was a bittersweet escape as Oskeous and Riether parted ways with their kin, vowing to build a new and prosperous clan for all. Guided by Riether, the fledgling group embarked on their far-reaching journey across the sea. Amongst that group of fleeing dragons was Caelit and Adalyn, who would become the deputy and seer of the sprouting Failte Flight. Finding Home in the Snowsquall Tundra The new flight made their home deep within the Snowsquall Tundra, building perches high in the trees and creating caverns deep into the mountain. Here, they named themselves the Fáitle Flight, a name that signifies their open arms to travelers. The flight grew strong in the cold and grew to larger numbers than Riether or Oskeous could’ve dreamed of. Among the eclectic array of dragons in the clan were many healers, mages and seers, bringing their talent from all across Sorneith. |
While in the Snowsquall Tundra, a rift formed between Riether and her youngest child, Hawkspring. Hawkspring became frustrated that they’d left behind her childhood home, her friends, her family. Riether knew that she was too young to understand the dangers that lurked behind them, but couldn’t quell the rising anger in her child. After an explosive fight, Hawkspring snuck off in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again. Riether went quiet after all three of her children had left. She spent most of her days within her cavern, giving all leadership duties to her deputy. She felt lost. The deity she loved so much had left her to her own devices-- had leaving her home not been enough to protect her clan and her children? It was a quiet season for the Fáitle Flight without their headstrong leader. They shared quiet, anxious whispers while Oskeous tried his best to cheer them up with bad puns and boisterous laughter.
As though the Icewarden heard the clan’s desperate pleas to heal their leader, an egg was found in the center of their camp. A glimmering ice egg like no dragon had ever seen before. A child was born, his laugh more potent than any healing magic. Riether took the hatchling under her wing, raising him into the ambitious dragon he is today. Crystalline’s hatching was the first of many magical occurrences in the Fáilte Flight, though in years to come quiet rumors would spread, asking if he was the start of the treacherous journey ahead.
Discovering The Light
It took many years for Riether to listen to the flight’s seer’s advice-- she refused to leave the Icefield, fearing that if she followed the advice of her seer, she’d be too close to the grasp of her home flight, too close to the rapids that threatened to drown her thoughts. When Bran was found at the edge of the clan, the first Gaoler seen by the Failte group, they ushered the shivering hatchling in, where he fell under the wing of Adalyn and Luxor. He, too, in time, saw the same light guiding them home-- to the Sunbeam Ruins.
In the Sunbeam Ruins, the Failte Flight seeks to build their knowledge of Sorneith and grow. They reside in the leftmost part of the island, building their home amongst the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. Here is where they will stay, until another light guides them elsewhere.
