A hymn strengthened by ceaseless chains, electrified above verdure.
A lulling roar wisps past your ear.

G H O U L

Dii didn't expect it to happen twice. This time on a hunt in the grounds near the water's edge, a Lightning egg nearly extinguished by the gentle waves licking it's surface sat solemnly. Drowning in the riverbed, with little hope to recover, she still fished the egg out and wiped off all the dirt, grime, and droplets of cool water.

"My luck," she spoke to the egg, faintly glowing even still, but seemingly fading, "grant me another hatchling from this that has been cast aside..."

The altar cradled the egg, it's light fading, dimming, the charge within it growing weaker. The soft glow from the skylight above mixed with the warmth of her living altar, built of twisting roots of a weeping willow, cradled the egg soundly.

She awoke to check upon the egg, and her hope turned to grief. The egg had extinguished completely, nothing but a grey and cold shell remained. She went to take the fragile form in her hands when she realized; the egg was very much lighter than when she had retrieved it from the riverbed... When she spun the shell around, she noticed a small hole carved into the shell, just big enough for a hatchling to slither out of.

"By the Mother, it lives!" she set the shell down and clapped her hands together, grateful again that her medicines and magicks have healed another soul. But now she had to find it, which ended up being much easier than she anticipated, when she heard splashing coming from behind her room.

Near the riverbed, a small but rather long Spiral splashed and played in the water's edge, seemingly unaware that these were the same waters that nearly claimed it's own life.

"Oh, my dear," Dii spoke to it, and it turned to face her, chirping excitedly. The chirp, as Dii would later explain it, sounded like an echo from underwater, a high-pitched wail from the depths. Calming, yet nearly surreal. And it's eyes were pupil-less, full of nothing but the shimmering cyan-blue a dragon birthed in Lightning would have. It slithered towards her, and she scooped up the little one, "you're lucky to be here, I hope you know. Now come, you must meet your sibling!"

Growing up, it took the name Ghoul, mimicking the reasons it's sibling, Zombie, took it's own name. Learning it's birthstory didn't sit well in the Spiral's guts, but it still felt nothing but love for Dii and all that she had done for both it, and it's sibling. The two guarded her, and the rest of the clan, from any dangers they could face.

And the two were perfectly content with having one another.
