Thel learned to fight as a hatchling.

Raised without a clan, by an organization called the Contingent, Thel was a member of a band of nocturne hatchlings trained to fight in an imagined war against the beastclans. Life in the Contingent was harsh and unforgiving, and their enemies were usually innocent civilians. Eventually, rebellion broke out, and Thel, along with her lifelong friend Rtas, led a number of her fellow comrades to kill the leader of the Contingent. The survivors scattered across Sornieth, and Thel found refuge in Lord Zurón's personal guard.

A skilled and loyal fighter, Thel quickly rose to the top, becoming captain of the guard and a close confidant and advisor to Lord Zurón himself. When he married Lady Natsuki, Thel was a member of the wedding party, and was later reassigned to be her personal protector. Her devotion to them both became absolute. When the two gave up their home to travel to the Sunbeam Ruins, Thel was the only member of their former guard to accompany them.

Now no longer a captain, or even a guard, in any official terms, Thel continues to act as companion and advisor to both Lord Zurón and Lady Natsuki. She also takes it upon herself to maintain the security of the castle and its surrounding lands. Many hours are passed training in the courtyard with Rtas or the other warriors of Heliovale (many of whom are fellow former Contingent members), and nobody passes into the clan's territory without her knowledge. Whatever time is not spent training, patrolling, or accompanying her lord and lady, is passed with Rtas, with whom she shares a deep and longstanding trust. Though they share little in interest or personality, and even, by their own admission, annoy each other most of the time, years of hard-fought battles have forged between them an odd, antagonized friendship that could never be replaced. They possess a marvelous ability to work and communicate together under pressure. The rest of the clan merely wonders why they never use it to solve their many arguments.
