Even before birth, Xenova was considered a special child. Laid during the Starfall Celebration, two crystalline eggs were produced, and tended day and night by the attentive parents. One hatched a week later, but the other, smaller egg needed weeks of incubating. When the second hatchling finally emerged, it was clear that she was surprisingly different. Born of a spiral and a ridgeback, the second child was a fae, a breed considered the very essence of the arcane flight. Stunned into silence, the parents gazed down at the tiny baby, taking in the rich lustre of her scales, and the wings that seemed to glow softly with an unseen light. But most unusual of all was the glittering halo that crowned the child's head, a symbol that they knew to be the blessing of the Nexxus.
Many arcane dens know of the mythical being known as the Nexxus, often referred to as the Traveller, who has been visiting the realm of Sornieth for centuries. It roams space and time, searching for those worthy of ascension, and its arrival is always heralded by a wondrous storm of luminous meteors. Nexxus had sensed something special when Xenova's egg was laid, and her parents believed that she had been 'touched by the stars', transforming her into a receptacle of pure arcane magik. Her twin brother, a ridgeback, resented the attention given to his fae sibling, and as he grew larger and more powerful, their parents began to worry for the smaller dragon's safety. Eventually, with a heavy heart they sent Xenova to a clan in the Shifting Expanse, where Zodiac, the world's foremost scholar of Nexxus and its teachings resided. Wishing to learn more about her powers, Xenova became Zodiac's pupil, and together the two faes work closely to study the secrets of their patron. An earnest but naive dragon, Xenova tries her best to use her magic for the good of her clan, but the pressure that her well-meaning parents had put upon her to achieve miracles has left the fae rather nervous, and she often needs much praise and encouragement to push herself further. With the aid of The Lastsparks, Xenova is on the road to becoming an impressive arcane cleric, and has been affectionately given the title of 'Startouched' by Zodiac, her closest friend and mentor.
