From the early writings of Fjord, the clan patriarch:

He came to us early on, in the beginning, when our Clan was still young. He came out of the shadows to the west, out of the Tangled Wood, and through the ruins to our camp. Though only a hatchling, being an Imperial, he was almost as big as Moss and me already... yet oddly vulnerable. He seemed fascinated by our fire that night, and that was what betrayed his presence- his great purple eyes, reflecting the firelight. He crawled out of the shadows, appearing as a small piece of the shadow itself, into the warm light of our fire.
And thus he has remained.
