Biography
AETERNA
Mediator | Brash | Witty | Determined | Tenacious
LORE
With his blunt, candid personality and tendency to run his mouth, Aeterna is not the sort of dragon who comes to mind when the title of 'mediator' is mentioned. When Kyril appointed him as an apprentice, there were many among the Suncircle's residents who thought the old Coatl had finally cracked. At the time of his appointment, Aeterna was an immature youth fresh from his birth clan, still growing into his wings and his place in the clan. Nobody was sure what to make of his elevation to an apprenticeship that would one day demand the young dragon rise to a position of calm, mature leadership.
Aeterna heard the criticisms, and was determined to prove them wrong. In fact, the condemnation of his elders only spurred Aeterna to work harder. He pored over tomes of legal study, learning about peaceful problem-solving and the resolution of past disputes between dragons and clans. His relationship with Kyril grew closer as well, until one day the Imperial worked up the courage to ask his mentor why, indeed, he had been chosen to inherit the position.
Kyril cuffed him gently with a wing. "First of all, I don't ever intend to retire. They can pry my hourglass from my cold, dead claws. And second, any one of those studious mites in the basement, poring over the dusty scrolls, could have done this job. There's nothing special about studying law and diplomacy - anyone can do it. But not everyone can be a mediator, and when I looked at you I saw a young dragon with the grit and determination to make peace an option, even when others would have long since given up. This clan needs more peace," he said, looking at Aeterna intently, "and one day it will need you."
Touched beyond a reply, Aeterna nodded his understanding and returned to his books. Nobody had ever believed in him like this old dragon, or challenged him to be more than he already was. But he'd earn his own hourglass one day, and prove to his mentor - and to everyone else - that the trust they'd put in him had not been misplaced.
