Aptenodyte hatched at the edge of the Shifting Expanse, to a small family of dragons who worked on the vast cables of the lightning farms. Their den was cut into the cliffs fasting the eastern sea of Sornieth, and so the first thing the young dragon saw every morning was the vast ocean stretching ahead of him. From where he lived, not even the electric cables that crossed his entire homeland were visible. He spent his youth off of the land and out in the waves, fishing and playing in the water even in the dead of winter. The sea called out to him in a way nothing else did.

Perhaps this is why, when he was of an age where he was transferred to a different lightning farm at the edge of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, it did not take him long to abandon his new job and loyalty to the Stormcaller in order to flee deep under the water and find a new life under the waves.

The new clan he found accepted him as one of many fishers who provide food for its members. His skills in this field are excellent. So excellent, in fact, that he was soon asked to instruct the hatchlings of the clan. What started off as simple fishing lessons became full-fledged teaching, and his skill at teaching led to him being offered a position as a member of the council. His success may have made him a bit arrogant and earned him some resentment from other clan members, but his work ethic and love for his adopted clan are two of Aptenodyte’s most notable qualities, and his contributions to both the council and education have been invaluable for the development of the clan.
