You awaken with the afternoon sun shining directly into your eyes. You are confused as to where you are. There is a bed underneath you though it is of questionable comfort. Your wing aches from having lied on it. You shakily rise from the bed and sit on the edge; your wings lie limp beside you. You stare out the window at a sprawling city below you and take in the glare form the buildings. You're forced to squint your eyes as you try to make out shapes, but the sun is reflecting back from almost every corner of the city. You reason that the buildings must be made of metal.
You close your eyes and try to recall the last thing you remember. Faint whisps of a past retreat from your mind as you try to grasp on to them. You instead try to focus on yourself; your body and consciousness. A pit falls in your stomach as you try to recall your name. There is nothing there and the whisps you could sense earlier are fading faster. Panic rises in your mind as you try to remember who you are, and you look down at your body.
You can't remember what you are supposed to look like, but your appearance seems wrong. You spot a mirror on the wall and move yourself to walk in front of it. You stumble over yourself as you try to remember how to move your body. The cool dirt floor is all you can feel for a moment before you rise to your feet once more. You firmly plant all four feet down and sink your claws in. You close your eyes and take a deep breath as you steady yourself once more.
Calmly this time, you take careful steps to the mirror. As you gaze into familiar eyes, it's everything around them that seems different. Wrong. The panic start to build once again, and then suddenly, a door slams open and a voice booms into your room.
"Ah, you are finally awake."
