Most living creatures on Sornieth live in blissful ignorance of the portal, and among the few who know of it, even fewer have ever seen it with their own eyes.[/size]

Interaction with it is strictly forbidden, with the exception of those who take care of the… [i]things[/i] that make their way out of the portal. However, the portal does not abide by the same rules, and it has ways of making itself known to Sornieth inhabitants. The constant magical, otherworldly energy oozing out of it takes a toll on the environment and those within it. Over time, these things start to change… to mutate… to twist and writhe and grow and split and reform into something new.[/size]

[size=4]Those in the Starfall Isles and Scarred Wasteland are typically the most affected, as they are closest to the source of this foreign magic; as such, many dragons from all over Sornieth who find themselves fallen victim to the portal’s influence have gathered in a crystalline cave network within the Starfall Isles. The caves themselves are so heavily irradiated by the portal’s magic that they appear to manipulate time and space around them, allowing these Portalborne dragons to live in their region of choice while still being “close” to the rest of their makeshift Clan. It is a place of rest, a place of need, one that is accessible to those who need it.[/size]

[size=4]The voice resounds from behind you, imposing yet gentle. “For what purpose do you seek our Clan?” The Imperial moves to stand beside you, but he does not face you, nor does he turn to look your way. The other dragons “present” in the room either don’t notice what’s going on or are simply entirely unfazed. “We have little to offer nor do we have much to ask.”

They will be bred relatively frequently, given my number of nests, my lair space, and their breeding cooldowns. I sometimes breed them Out Of Flight to try and match their eye color, but if you have any specific eye color request, ping or PM me and I'll see what I can do!

They medically do not carry any illness or disease nor can they be cured, but they have never gotten better nor have they gotten worse. They permanently experience minor symptoms of illness such as coughing, headaches, and nausea. Any bleached Coatl offspring produced by one or both parties will also experience these symptoms throughout their life.

The markings on their flanks and paws control the temperature and color of their bodies, allowing them to camouflage both their body heat and their physical form from prey and enemies alike. The closer they are to the Portal, the brighter the Runes on their bodies will glow. Prolonged periods of time too close to the Portal can cause their bodies to "short-circuit" and fry their color and temperature changing abilities for a while.

[url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/28620424][b][color=80426c]Crowley[/color][/b][/url] and [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/28938524][b][color=80426c]Rowena[/color][/b][/url] were some of the first members of the Clan of the Portalborne to come together over their shared mutations and effects from the Portal and its magic. Crowley's apparent "crust" that forms on his skin (and that of some of his offspring) is hard and thick, limiting his mobility, but acting as extremely resilient (and seemingly somewhat magical) armor and protection. Rowena (and any similar offspring) developed obvious stripes covering her back and sides which have appeared to both detect and absorb magical energies of any and all elemental alignments, though depending on the source and type of magic, the absorption can cause some minor, temporary harm.

The Butterfly wings, shared by Gabriel and some of his offspring, grant vastly increased speed during flight (theorized to be due to warping time and space around the dragon as they fly), though extended periods of flight are not recommended and can dangerously exhaust a dragon. The Seraph wings, of Sam and some of their offspring, seem bring with them prophetic visions and clairvoyance, or other similar psychic abilities such as aura reading, fortune telling, or astral projection.

Instead, their offspring seem to glisten and appear... not quite transparent, but ever so slightly translucent, as if made of crystal. Their offspring seem to have an inborn knack for intuition and making predictions, and many report experiencing frequent lucid dreams.

Seeming to possess dominion over the mind, commonly reported traits of their children include: dream manipulation, clearing and calming minds, sleep inducement, emotional soothing, headache remedy, and/or other similar abilities.

Most of their children display immense predispositions (and perhaps abilities to create and manipulate) balance and peace, radiating positivity and kindness. They can dissuade the tension in most situations and are able to facilitate conversations with ease, making them wonderful ambassadors and diplomats.

Either on command or due to certain mental/emotional stimuli, their offspring can produce and emit heat and/or light. They also appear to be incredibly difficult to upset or bring down, as well as spreading that disposition to those around them.

[url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/69531307][b][color=80426c]Silail[/color][/b][/url] and [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/44068890][b][color=80426c]Titania[/color][/b][/url] both exhibit strange behavior and physical features, though unlike Silail and most other Portalborne dragons, Titania has never been near the Portal and her abilities seem to be entirely unrelated to any caused by the portal. However, most of their children have glass compartments along their underside that (typically) contain some sort of liquid. Whether the liquid is safe for consumption or [i]what[/i] it is are often unknown. Silail's circuitry is occasionally passed onto his offspring, who will the share his ability to generate electricity (and serve as a power supply).

Hierophant possesses the ability to extend and manipulate his fur around his body, stretching and moving the pieces of fur as if they were regular limbs. These "appendages" can grab, sense, feel, and manipulate objects with extreme accuracy, sensitivity, and ease. Any Obelisk offspring share this trait. Ermes, and any Skydancer offspring, can create duplicates of objects (or parts of living creatures) that they touch. These duplicates act and exist as real, individual objects. If they so desire, they can choose to "end" the duplicate, causing it to be pulled back to the original object and reunite into one object once again.

Hanzo is unable to speak, physically, although fae can communicate telepathically, while Neptune's voice echoes and surrounds others, coming from everywhere all at once. Their children do not always inherit one of those afflictions, though some will. All of their children, however, seem to develop inherent connections to either the Shadowbinder or the Arcanist, depending on which parent they take after more or the location of their hatching.

They have not spoken of exactly what happened during their time on the other side of the portal, but they've allowed extensive studying and observation of the changes they've felt. Nereid, not unlike some sharks, begins to "stall" and shutdown if she stops moving for too long; this leads her, and any of her children that take after her in this way, to live a life of exploration and adventure, constantly moving and wandering and learning. Mariel, however, became linked to the portal. He cannot venture too far from it, lest he slowly... turn to stone... for lack of a better explanation. The exact details and mechanics are unknown as he (and his children who share this trait) aren't exactly willing to see what happens if they move too far away. However, the direct Portal exposure allows for both of them (and all their offspring) to create viewing portals that act as a window to another location (these portals are not capable of transporting dragons, however).

Experiencing a rapid mutation from a sudden burst of energy released from the Portal, they became melded with the very wealth they hoarded. Gold taking on the metallic sheen of the element he shares his name with; Ananiel becoming crystalline like the fine gems and jewels. They, as well as their offspring, have developed abilities similar to those commonly ascribed to the gems and minerals that their bodies are now apparently made from. The colors and genes of their offspring will determine their unique, individual set of powers.

After some time in the crystal caves of this lair, infused with the Portal's magic, the veins and cracks along her body became filled with color, her body taking on a galactic design and pulsing with astronomical energy. Their children each share a unique link to a star, galaxy, nebula, or other astronomical body, and both look like that body as well as share a psychic connection to it, knowing what happens on and around it at all times.

This material, if collected, make incredibly potent and long-lasting pigments perfect for most arts & crafts. It is highly recommended to only collect this material from these dragons with consent as removing too much can be painful and their bodily autonomy is to be respected. Ask first, they're very likely to agree.

On the other hand, Melone is often very unwelcome in workshops found in the Shifting Expanse due to their body actively attracting and redirecting electrical currents. Their wings and underbelly often absorb and manipulate these currents, consciously deciding what to use them for in the body (or perhaps whether to redirect it into something else). The shimmering appearance of their white body comes from the electrical impulses being used or redirected out of the body (whether as waste or intentionally for some purpose).

Heaven's touch-telepathy and memory reading combines with Echoes's creation of soundwaves (and ability to manipulate them as if they were physical objects) to give most of their children the ability to read the mind and memories of anyone who hears their sounds. Occasionally, a child with patches of a crystal or jewel of some kind appears on their skin, that child takes almost entirely after Heaven; retaining the touch-telepathy and memory reading, but also allowing them access to Heaven's more obscure talents: memory manipulation. This allows for the creation of new (believable) memories, removal of existing memories, and the manipulation of memories.

The colorful gases seen at claws, wing tips, face, and tail of these Banescales are toxic, being created within the body and emitted through small vents found in between and underneath the scales at those locations. The color of this gas is determined by the exact chemical makeup, and a Banescale of this nature is immune to their own gas (as well as the gas of any other dragon with the same color/chemical compound). The streaks of color on their previously pure-black bodies and the dying of their wings may be connected to either the creation of this gas or exposure to it, though the source is unclear. It does, however, serve a purpose similar to the bright colors of a poison dart frog or another not-so-tasty animal. It alerts predators to the poison found within them, deterring all but the most desperate threats.

The confusing, twisted, bold, and colorful patterns they bear, and pass to their offspring, were hand-crafted by the force of the Portal, twisting and ripping at their bodies, bringing something entirely new to light. Thus, the exact design on their bodies and wings tends to change slightly over time and they shed their thick hides quite frequently; the shed skin catching on their hands and feet and face, getting stuck, and looking like gloves and masks of scales. If these bits of shed skin aren't removed, they will catch more skin in the next shed and slowly build up and toughen, growing in size and limiting the movement of the dragon.

Seemingly incapable of becoming enraged or distraught or anything other than happy and energetic. Bubble, and any children sharing his shiny coat and/or insectoid wings, seem to be lighter than air, able to bounce and hover and float at will; some report being able to intake large amounts of air and inflate like a balloon, but this has yet to be proven and is likely untrue. Gummy's traits are more common among their offspring, and the most noticeable trait is an almost jelly-like texture. Their bodies squish and stretch and twist and fold in ways that are either impossible or dangerous for any other dragon, and yet they are never harmed, their bodies return to their original shape as if nothing happened. They are extremely difficult to cause physical damage to, which is often a good thing given how hyperactive these children can be, but our researchers find it somewhat concerning.

Dionysus appears to house wine and Sakon seems to contain grape juice, at least, that's what can be assumed from the reports of taste, color, and aroma. These liquids appear to be created within the body of the dragon and must be drained periodically, lest the capsule become too full and burst. The type of liquid appears to relate to the personality and interests and environment of the dragon somehow, as Dionysus is a vintner and creates wine and Sakon is an alchemist who frequently works with such liquids and potions, but we have yet to find a pattern or a reliable way to predict what liquid a dragon may create.

Both, for lack of a better term, created from various organic and inorganic materials, they don't behave like any typical dragon. In fact, they tend to be incredibly spacey and have such a one-track mind that others sometimes assume they're automatons and are programmed to do certain tasks. Aslesa's glassy body is thick, but easily scratched and cracked, requiring maintenance; her tail sheds a dim, sickly light that appears to cause headaches and dizziness in those who get too close to it. She seems physically and mentally drawn to plants and herbs, tending to them and collecting them, carefully preparing them and precisely combining them in every possible form. Coatl offspring seem to share this drive. Kerubiel's wings are smooth and tough, as though made of steel or titanium, and his body seems to constantly drip and ooze, as if he himself is just a viscous liquid taking the shape of a dragon. His body has patches of discoloration that seem to boil and blister constantly, although it appears to be painless for him (and any similar offspring). Records suggest that any Pearlcatcher offspring share his innate impulse to tinker, to take things apart and rebuild them, modifying old things and creating new machines and toys.

Silk's body appears to be made of fabric, ribbons and strips of fine, silky, soft textures merged into one large form. Their preoccupation with material things, especially textiles, seems to come from a sense of kinship with them. Children taking on their striped pattern will also be made of fabrics. Satin's star-like coat shifts and shimmers as if it were made of the stars themselves. It primarily works at the Observatory and records many of the findings of the Portalborne for the Arcanist, and any of its children that inherit its galaxies share the seemingly live pattern of the actual skies over Sornieth.

They share an innate link to the clouds, understanding their movements and meaning, as well as appearing in slightly better health when the skies have increased cloud coverage. Cirrus, and any Coatl offspring of the pairing, has expressed abilities to manipulate and control clouds, even weather patterns themselves at times; these dragons also seem innately drawn to studying the skies in some way. Stratus, and the Skydancer children, is capable of taking a cloud-like form, turning into a dragon-shaped conglomerate of water droplets. The exact mechanics of this ability aren't quite understood yet, however.

Much more is known about Murkthorn, as her own history with the Wandering Contagion has lead to her becoming a paragon of what it means to be a Plague dragon. Incomprehensible does not speak, so we know very little about him, but given his behavior and his relationship with Murkthorn, it seems he has a similar backstory, but one related to ancient Arcane energies. The pair of them guard the Forbidden Portal, manifestations of the energy it radiates guarding the rest of Sornieth from whatever may attempt to come through. Their children are often similar exemplars of their flight (Arcane or Plague, depending on where they're nested), and the exact extent of their abilities is unknown.

In fact, we really aren't even sure what specifically makes them Portalborne (if they are, in fact, Portalborne dragons and not just two unaffected dragons who seem to appear within the clan from time to time). What we do know for sure, though, is that they sure are purple!

These pairs are official pairings, whether in my clan's lore or just in the Hatchery. They will be bred relatively frequently, given my number of nests, my lair space, and their breeding cooldowns. I sometimes breed them Out Of Flight to try and match their eye color, but if you have any specific eye color request, ping or PM me and I'll see what I can do!

Apollo and
Umbriel fell ill from the Portal's magical energies, bleaching white as Coatl's tend to do. They medically do not carry any illness or disease nor can they be cured, but they have never gotten better nor have they gotten worse. They permanently experience minor symptoms of illness such as coughing, headaches, and nausea. Any bleached Coatl offspring produced by one or both parties will also experience these symptoms throughout their life.
Bobby and
Ellen, as well as any offspring they produce, have cold, slimy skin that shimmers and shifts colors. The markings on their flanks and paws control the temperature and color of their bodies, allowing them to camouflage both their body heat and their physical form from prey and enemies alike. The closer they are to the Portal, the brighter the Runes on their bodies will glow. Prolonged periods of time too close to the Portal can cause their bodies to "short-circuit" and fry their color and temperature changing abilities for a while.
Crowley and
Rowena were some of the first members of the Clan of the Portalborne to come together over their shared mutations and effects from the Portal and its magic. Crowley's apparent "crust" that forms on his skin (and that of some of his offspring) is hard and thick, limiting his mobility, but acting as extremely resilient (and seemingly somewhat magical) armor and protection. Rowena (and any similar offspring) developed obvious stripes covering her back and sides which have appeared to both detect and absorb magical energies of any and all elemental alignments, though depending on the source and type of magic, the absorption can cause some minor, temporary harm.
Gabriel and
Sam had their wings mutated and changed due to the effects of the Portal. The Butterfly wings, shared by Gabriel and some of his offspring, grant vastly increased speed during flight (theorized to be due to warping time and space around the dragon as they fly), though extended periods of flight are not recommended and can dangerously exhaust a dragon. The Seraph wings, of Sam and some of their offspring, seem bring with them prophetic visions and clairvoyance, or other similar psychic abilities such as aura reading, fortune telling, or astral projection.
Galtan and
Selene may have developed unique "powers" or "mutations" or other differences due to the influence of the Portal, but none of their own traits seem to ever be directly passed onto their offspring. Instead, their offspring seem to glisten and appear... not quite transparent, but ever so slightly translucent, as if made of crystal. Their offspring seem to have an inborn knack for intuition and making predictions, and many report experiencing frequent lucid dreams.
Galtan and
Zadkiel don't pass on their own individual abilities and traits to their children, but their children to seem to share a certain set of mutations themselves. Seeming to possess dominion over the mind, commonly reported traits of their children include: dream manipulation, clearing and calming minds, sleep inducement, emotional soothing, headache remedy, and/or other similar abilities.
Sahaquiel and
Zadkiel are often unrecognizable as the parents of their offspring given the vast differences between their changes and those of their children. Most of their children display immense predispositions (and perhaps abilities to create and manipulate) balance and peace, radiating positivity and kindness. They can dissuade the tension in most situations and are able to facilitate conversations with ease, making them wonderful ambassadors and diplomats.
Sahaquiel and
Selene have experienced similar effects due to Portal exposure yet their children seem to have somewhat different mutations. Either on command or due to certain mental/emotional stimuli, their offspring can produce and emit heat and/or light. They also appear to be incredibly difficult to upset or bring down, as well as spreading that disposition to those around them.
Silail and
Titania both exhibit strange behavior and physical features, though unlike Silail and most other Portalborne dragons, Titania has never been near the Portal and her abilities seem to be entirely unrelated to any caused by the portal. However, most of their children have glass compartments along their underside that (typically) contain some sort of liquid. Whether the liquid is safe for consumption or
what it is are often unknown. Silail's circuitry is occasionally passed onto his offspring, who will the share his ability to generate electricity (and serve as a power supply).
Hierophant and
Ermes both have incredibly interesting mutations that are also passed down to their offspring. Hierophant possesses the ability to extend and manipulate his fur around his body, stretching and moving the pieces of fur as if they were regular limbs. These "appendages" can grab, sense, feel, and manipulate objects with extreme accuracy, sensitivity, and ease. Any Obelisk offspring share this trait. Ermes, and any Skydancer offspring, can create duplicates of objects (or parts of living creatures) that they touch. These duplicates act and exist as real, individual objects. If they so desire, they can choose to "end" the duplicate, causing it to be pulled back to the original object and reunite into one object once again.
Hanzo and
Neptune share seemingly opposing symptoms of the Portal's magic. Hanzo is unable to speak, physically, although fae can communicate telepathically, while Neptune's voice echoes and surrounds others, coming from everywhere all at once. On the other hand, Melone is often very unwelcome in workshops found in the Shifting Expanse due to their body actively attracting and redirecting electrical currents. Their wings and underbelly often absorb and manipulate these currents, consciously deciding what to use them for in the body (or perhaps whether to redirect it into something else). The shimmering appearance of their white body comes from the electrical impulses being used or redirected out of the body (whether as waste or intentionally for some purpose).
Heaven and
Echoes are intriguing; the abilities and features they've gained from the portal perfectly mesh and create a new, unique ability consistently found in most of their children, with only a few differing from the majority. Heaven's touch-telepathy and memory reading combines with Echoes's creation of soundwaves (and ability to manipulate them as if they were physical objects) to give most of their children the ability to read the mind and memories of anyone who hears their sounds. Occasionally, a child with patches of a crystal or jewel of some kind appears on their skin, that child takes almost entirely after Heaven; retaining the touch-telepathy and memory reading, but also allowing them access to Heaven's more obscure talents: memory manipulation. This allows for the creation of new (believable) memories, removal of existing memories, and the manipulation of memories.
Peck and
Katharina are one of a few pairs here that have similar, if not the same, effects from the Portal's magical radiation. The colorful gases seen at claws, wing tips, face, and tail of these Banescales are toxic, being created within the body and emitted through small vents found in between and underneath the scales at those locations. The color of this gas is determined by the exact chemical makeup, and a Banescale of this nature is immune to their own gas (as well as the gas of any other dragon with the same color/chemical compound). The streaks of color on their previously pure-black bodies and the dying of their wings may be connected to either the creation of this gas or exposure to it, though the source is unclear. It does, however, serve a purpose similar to the bright colors of a poison dart frog or another not-so-tasty animal. It alerts predators to the poison found within them, deterring all but the most desperate threats.
Logos and
Pathos were quickly warped from the magical irradiation. The confusing, twisted, bold, and colorful patterns they bear, and pass to their offspring, were hand-crafted by the force of the Portal, twisting and ripping at their bodies, bringing something entirely new to light. Thus, the exact design on their bodies and wings tends to change slightly over time and they shed their thick hides quite frequently; the shed skin catching on their hands and feet and face, getting stuck, and looking like gloves and masks of scales. If these bits of shed skin aren't removed, they will catch more skin in the next shed and slowly build up and toughen, growing in size and limiting the movement of the dragon.
Bubble and
Gummy are very,
very sweet dragons, both literally and figuratively. Seemingly incapable of becoming enraged or distraught or anything other than happy and energetic. Bubble, and any children sharing his shiny coat and/or insectoid wings, seem to be lighter than air, able to bounce and hover and float at will; some report being able to intake large amounts of air and inflate like a balloon, but this has yet to be proven and is likely untrue. Gummy's traits are more common among their offspring, and the most noticeable trait is an almost jelly-like texture. Their bodies squish and stretch and twist and fold in ways that are either impossible or dangerous for any other dragon, and yet they are never harmed, their bodies return to their original shape as if nothing happened. They are extremely difficult to cause physical damage to, which is often a good thing given how hyperactive these children can be, but our researchers find it somewhat concerning.
Dionysus and
Sakon have developed a cavity along their underbelly made of a transparent material (not yet identified as either organic or inorganic) which houses a liquid. Dionysus appears to house wine and Sakon seems to contain grape juice, at least, that's what can be assumed from the reports of taste, color, and aroma. These liquids appear to be created within the body of the dragon and must be drained periodically, lest the capsule become too full and burst. The type of liquid appears to relate to the personality and interests and environment of the dragon somehow, as Dionysus is a vintner and creates wine and Sakon is an alchemist who frequently works with such liquids and potions, but we have yet to find a pattern or a reliable way to predict what liquid a dragon may create.
Kerubiel and
Aslesa both bear physical, and possibly mental, maladies. Both, for lack of a better term, created from various organic and inorganic materials, they don't behave like any typical dragon. In fact, they tend to be incredibly spacey and have such a one-track mind that others sometimes assume they're automatons and are programmed to do certain tasks. Aslesa's glassy body is thick, but easily scratched and cracked, requiring maintenance; her tail sheds a dim, sickly light that appears to cause headaches and dizziness in those who get too close to it. She seems physically and mentally drawn to plants and herbs, tending to them and collecting them, carefully preparing them and precisely combining them in every possible form. Coatl offspring seem to share this drive. Kerubiel's wings are smooth and tough, as though made of steel or titanium, and his body seems to constantly drip and ooze, as if he himself is just a viscous liquid taking the shape of a dragon. His body has patches of discoloration that seem to boil and blister constantly, although it appears to be painless for him (and any similar offspring). Records suggest that any Pearlcatcher offspring share his innate impulse to tinker, to take things apart and rebuild them, modifying old things and creating new machines and toys.
Silk and
Satin can be identified as Arcane dragons from a mile away, their bodies nearly glowing with the magical energies of the portal that run throughout them. Silk's body appears to be made of fabric, ribbons and strips of fine, silky, soft textures merged into one large form. Their preoccupation with material things, especially textiles, seems to come from a sense of kinship with them. Children taking on their striped pattern will also be made of fabrics. Satin's star-like coat shifts and shimmers as if it were made of the stars themselves. It primarily works at the Observatory and records many of the findings of the Portalborne for the Arcanist, and any of its children that inherit its galaxies share the seemingly live pattern of the actual skies over Sornieth.
Cirrus and
Stratus both love the skies, seeming to take after them as much as they take to them. They share an innate link to the clouds, understanding their movements and meaning, as well as appearing in slightly better health when the skies have increased cloud coverage. Cirrus, and any Coatl offspring of the pairing, has expressed abilities to manipulate and control clouds, even weather patterns themselves at times; these dragons also seem innately drawn to studying the skies in some way. Stratus, and the Skydancer children, is capable of taking a cloud-like form, turning into a dragon-shaped conglomerate of water droplets. The exact mechanics of this ability aren't quite understood yet, however.
Incomprehensible and
Murkthorn are two... particularly
odd Portalborne dragons. Much more is known about Murkthorn, as her own history with the Wandering Contagion has lead to her becoming a paragon of what it means to be a Plague dragon. Incomprehensible does not speak, so we know very little about him, but given his behavior and his relationship with Murkthorn, it seems he has a similar backstory, but one related to ancient Arcane energies. The pair of them guard the Forbidden Portal, manifestations of the energy it radiates guarding the rest of Sornieth from whatever may attempt to come through. Their children are often similar exemplars of their flight (Arcane or Plague, depending on where they're nested), and the exact extent of their abilities is unknown.
Welch and
Fanta are quite curious dragons. We aren't exactly sure what their deal is, where they came from, or why they're here. The just showed up one day. In fact, we really aren't even sure what specifically makes them Portalborne (if they are, in fact, Portalborne dragons and not just two unaffected dragons who seem to appear within the clan from time to time). What we do know for sure, though, is that they sure are purple!

- BB Coding Guide is found here, it's just super helpful and I want to share it with y'all.
- Banner and Bump Image are still my own creations, made on Canva with some of their animated logo stuff and then Picsart and resizing tools to do some editing and finishing up.
- Breeding Cards are made by me! I used a combination of Picsart, Phonto, FireAlpaca, and paint.net to make the cards and the portal in the background. The color ranges come from this predictor.
