i got similar today after making glass beakers on latest version of firefox, laptop. didn't capture the error in variable text though.
happened on my phone with safari earlier in the day too i believe, that time i just transmuted an item and the page wouldn't load after its meant to refresh... so i forced refreshed it and it loaded fine, i suspected an error happened and i presume it's this.
also re: i definitely didn't double click on my phone, not so sure on the laptop though.

similar thing happens to me also. it doesn't show error page, but the transmute box did not open the "select item" window if clicked after collecting completed object. but it worked after the page is refreshed.

2. click the transmute box. nothing pop up.

4. click the transmute box. select item window pop up.
