TOPIC | Arlo's Digsite focus and not digging?
I wasn't really sure how to word the title, but this has happened at least twice now, I've started a dig in the aerie, which I have set to focus, then leave Flight Rising and do other things, and I can come back a couple of hours later and it is now focused on our first dig site that came out, well, it's highlighted in color, but the aerie is set to focus still. And when I come back, no digging went on? Browser: Chrome, latest edition. Error Text: N/A Screenshot: here is the console if that helps. Your post is a little confusing; in the image, Ancient Aerie is shown to be highlighted, as you said it should be, and "[Thunder Lizards is] highlighted in color but the Aerie is set to focus still" doesn't tell me which one was highlighted.

To clarify: "Focus Digsite" just means that you're choosing which digsite will receive research notes sent by other players. It doesn't automatically start any digging, nor does it prevent you from digging with tools in Thunder Lizards if you have the research focus set to Ancient Aerie. From this post alone, I cannot identify whether this is a bug or a misconception of Arlo's mechanics.

If possible, could you please add:
  • A step-by-step walkthrough of each action you took before this error occurred, what you expected to happen from those actions, and what happened instead. This can help identify any misunderstandings or pinpoint where the problem starts.
  • A more thorough description of the problem itself. To my understanding, you set the focus to Ancient Aerie and left for a few hours after starting a pickaxe or magnifier. You returned to find Thunder Lizards focused instead (highlighted in red) and the digging work you started in Ancient Aerie seemed to have never happened.

Is this correct? If not, please include the walkthrough and explain in detail what actually happened.
  • If you feel it's relevant, add which version of Chrome you're using by its actual number. "Latest edition" changes all the time, and may make it difficult to troubleshoot if it's a bug that needs developer attention.

If you don't know where to find the version number, I believe you can open the options menu and click "Help," then select "About Chrome." I doubt it's particularly important in this situation, but you never know!
Lastly, I admit I don't know much about website programming or console errors, but judging by the URLs and error message, I would guess that it's referring to a browser extension that failed to load an element, and 2 ads that were blocked by your adblocker. I do not know if this is related to the Arlo problem.

I will go to a different game or just off the computer most times closing Chrome, and after an hour or two come back and no digging occurred. As for it being highlighted in red, I'm colorblind so never even noticed that. I was going by the fact that Thunder Lizards is in "color" and Ancient Aerie is "greyed out." I have all extensions but Ad Blocker off. And I normally have that running so I'm not certain why it would create a problem now. I'm using Chrome Version 102.0.5005.63 (Official Build) (64-bit). However, when I clicked on help it started updating? O_O Sooooo, we may want to put this on hold until tomorrow to see if maybe that was the reason.

Thanks, this helps a lot! I did wonder if colorblindness could be a factor; the "Focused" digsite has the little switch on the right side, highlighted in red on the left, and I completely understand how hard that is to miss without the color cue. In your screenshot, Ancient Aerie is the focused digsite, so no troubles there!

The digsite icons themselves are never meant to change in color, so that may be another case of colorblindness tricking you into thinking it was a game mechanic. To my eyes, both icons have similar shades of brown, though Thunder Lizards does have green leaves and more vibrant colors that stand out. Again, totally understandable.

With that out of the way, the real bug is the missing pickaxe work. Overall, the best way to help identify this bug for the developers is to include as many details as possible, even if they seem obvious or mundane. You've covered extensions and browser version (thanks!), but a description of what "no digging" exactly looks like is also useful information.

Even if it's as simple as "I set the work and came back to a digsite with no plots to clear," that clears up any confusion about what the digsite page might have looked like.

From your phrasing, it sounds like this has happened more than once, at which point I'd ask how consistently the problem's been occurring, and whether you can pinpoint any common circumstances among them - though, I may be taking your wording a bit too literally. That's why we ask for details!

But if this is the first time, that's relevant, too; when you get the chance, see if you can replicate this problem after the browser has updated. If you can replicate the error, that means you can give recent, accurate information on what happens. If not, then that's okay too; you've already made your post, and inconsistent bugs are always hard to identify.

If you want, keep a notepad nearby (physical or digital) and take note whenever you use a pickaxe or magnifier, and check "yes" or "no" afterwards to track whether or not the digging went through on each one. After each work has finished, you could also scroll down before clearing the tiles and count to make sure all 5 tiles went through.

I don't think the console messages or adblock are necessarily related to this oddity in particular, but it's not impossible; browser extensions and yes, updates, can have all kinds of unintended effects. Here's hoping we can work it out!

yes, you had it correct. When I went back there were no tiles to clear out. But I will definitely keep a record of things and thank you again.

Have you checked whether any digging occurred in Thunder Lizards when this happens?

Once I accidentally used a pickaxe in Thunder Lizards instead of Ancient Aerie without noticing, and another time I caught myself just as I was about to.

Muscle memory can be a stubborn thing! I'd have said I couldn't do that without being aware of it, but I did.

@LuminAgricola I'm trying to make sure of that as well. :) But thank you for reminding me.

It just happened again. I did 7 times in a row and the first 6 did fine, but when I went back to the page, since I still hadn't gotten a notice I had sites ready, there were no tiles cleared. Not scrolling down or anything. Here is how I kept track of it.
