I do traditional art (I don't have photoshop on my computer) and one time I tried to open an art shop and it failed. I draw dragons as humans, gijinka, I think it's called. I drew two of my own dragons as humans and while I think I did pretty good, I want to know what you guys think and if there's anyway to improve them without changing my style (kind of a cross between anime and cartoon.) They are very cute!
If yo're looking for tips on improvement, I think it would help if you did more layering on the colours (so there's no white gaps, like on the grey shirt), and if you did some shading it would also help add depth to them :)

It can also help to clean up the background around the characters, so it's completely white, it will help them pop even more!

Thank you very much. I could try some more layering and shading. As for the background, I tend to draw the pencil lines very heavy (I have terrible eyesight up close) and often end up starting over because I erase holes in the paper, so I'm not sure if I even could get a nice white background without using photoshop.

I'm glade you like them. I've been told that I had a 'weird' art style, but I think with some layering and better shading they'd look amazing.

Dude they're so adorable!
The composition overall is terrific.

For tips, maybe anatomy?
The hands are looking kind of off, and the boy's arm is positioned awkwardly and in a way that looks mildly uncomfortable. The gal's eyes are uneven slightly, and the body structures are just mildly in need of improvement.

Other than that, it's excellent! Just a handful of anatomy issues. (Not that I'm good at that myself, so I'm not exactly an expert) XD

Honestly the big thing I'm noticing is the shaky lines, I would practice trying to keep the pencils steady. For having a more cartoony/anime style the anatomy isn't terrible but I would always look at a reference when you draw people. Especially with the eyes they aren't angle correctly and it throws the entire face off.
I feel like that came off really mean, I actually really like your stuff you just need to practice some more.Definitly give me a ping if you reopen your art shop.

I will, thank you. Actually, this is the best advice I ever got. I have a hard time with eyes and I should practice drawing straighter lines and I had no references for these other than the dragons. If I ever decide to open shop again, I'll ping you. It might have also been the prices too. I did either 5000 treasure or 6 gems, which was probably a bit much for what I was doing.

Agreeing with the advice above.

You could also try a different medium! Colored pencils are one of the slowest art supplies you can use because they're so tiny. You might be better to use something like oil pastels, watercolors, acrylics, or something else that can cover more surface area faster.

When drawing humans, [i]definitely[/i] look at a reference. Even if you're going for disproportional, knowing how the anatomy of the human body works is quite helpful, especially when it comes to more dynamic poses. 2. When you're drawing a character in 3/4 view, don't draw their face symmetrically. I used to do this [i]all[/i] the time and I could never figure out why faces I drew looked so weird. When a character is in 3/4 view, part of their face is slightly obscured. So if they're facing left, their nose would overlap the right side of their face, etc. 3. Coloring. It's tough. Especially with traditional mediums. (With digital you got layers, and the [i]undo button[/i], praise the lord.) To minimize patching in your coloring, I would suggest coloring in circle patterns, rather then up/down or side/side. Circling makes the colors look smoother, as long as you don't use too much pressure. It can also give your colors some cool textures if you don't try to blend the circles out. 4. Practice makes perfect! Just keep plunking away and eventually you'll improve. It will take time, so be patient with yourself! Here: a complimentary red line for you. (Er, blue line I suppose.) Psst, you don't need Photoshop to remove backgrounds/just get into digital painting if that's something you'd be interested in.

GIMP is a free program that's similar to Photoshop. In my opinion it's annoying to use but it's not bad for erasing backgrounds and making smooth outlines with the pen tool.

Krita is my current favorite. Also free. It's really fun to draw in that one.

Thank you, yes coloured pencil art can take a long time but I enjoy drawing and I don't mind if I take a long time, however, I do have oil pastels, not as good for the details, but as you said, much better for large surface area.

thank you. I really should use references, I like how you did the blue line over them. The lines and words next to the lines are very helpful. I'm actually surprised at how much I got right.

I actually downloaded GIMP once back in 2014, unfortunately the site I downloaded it from gave me a lot of undesirable content along with the program, the computer started going extremely slow and kept randomly crashing. I then had to go through 5 tons of files, delete all the stuff that came with the download package, GIMP included, then I did an update that took over a day to finish and to put it simply, I know that I got it from a bad site, and that it was three years ago, but I still don't want to take a chance on going through that again.

However if Krita is free and there's no chance of my computer getting spammed, I will look into it. But no GIMP. I'm actually trying very hard to get my own laptop, and have been looking at available jobs.
